Re: Madden NFL 10 Gameplay Video: Eagles @ Cowboys (IGN)

In the IGN video, and all the previous videos, the gameplay looked nice and clean and the graphics looked great. But now, after the Online Co-Op video, the graphics look exactly like 09 and the players run like idiots. I don't understand it. The IGN video has to be the most recent, it has to be. There is no way there are two videos that are the current build of Madden 10 and one video has amazing graphics and gameplay, and the other has horrible graphics and 09 gameplay. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

2 responses, Romo even held the ball low like he does, and definitely threw the ball just like the real deal. Great work there.

The handoff to Westbrook looked great IMO, it was a counter and Mcnabb switched hands to help with the sell that the run was going to go right, looks awesome.

Yeah it LOOKED cool. But, even better would be if it actually WORKS. I didn't notice the Procedural Awareness-in all it's glory-in the vid. I think the camera is too far back, though.

I look forward to the next vid. Because this one is.....

Valdarez I still think your "route based passing" idea is a little off. Adem mentioned it in another thread. I think Madden's passing is a little more responsive to the location of the receiver. That doesn't mean it's not route based and that doesn't mean that AP's is. What you're seeing is APF's long uninterruptable animations at work, not some fancy feature they put in.

As far as your comments on momentum would you mind breaking down a specific example of where you see an issue? In my estimation it's much improved...and it's certainly no longer "turn on a dime". It's not where I'd like to be but it's better. Unless you're seeing something I dont. Please point it out.

I'm sure this has been posted but I hope they crank up the crowd noise. Nothing worse than a quiet crowd. Too me it really takes away from the overall atmosphere.

Madden's passing is instant response/directional, with no ability to throw the ball and complete the pass after the cut/slant has been made. In APF2K8 you can throw before the cut/slant and it's not 'animation based' as you are trying to pawn it off. It's a mechanic built into the game which makes passing amazingly real. Most realistic representation of passing I have seen to date. What makes it really special is that it works hand in hand with the momentum/physics system. A players momentum/speed affects their routes / cuts, and the passing mechanic allows you to throw the ball before they make their cuts / slant (sorry no animations in play here!) and complete the pass after the cut/slant has been made.

You should read this thread. I provided full video examples of route based passing.

There are turn on the dime examples in that video. Just watch the DBs. In another post on this thread I gave an exact example where the DB was running towards the WR (who's running a straight route). The DB turns around and is instantly stride for stride with the WR, and that's after running the opposite direction towards the WR. That's not realistic, heck it's not even humanly possible. Instant turns / instant speed are the primary cause of many of the zone warp issues in Madden '09 and why you can't accurately read / pass against tight coverage.

Yup.....I've said this for 2 years now...esp the 'missing frames part'...it just doesn't have a fluid feel

perhaps slowing the game down from that speed seen in the vid will help ( i know all the other improvements will help--me anyway)

still wish the pre (and post) snap default camera was closer to the action.
I feel the same exact way about the cameras. I made that thread awhile back about the pre/post play cam zoom but I guess Ian didn't see it. Also the post play cam kicks in way too fast. The players were barely on the ground before it kicked in. I hope things change(or at least we see more) but as far the post play camera's go, EA still hasn't gotten it yet. I really wish they would've taken APF's approach. They nailed it.
