How would you ever have an even schedule with sixteen games in a season and thirty-one potential opponents? It's neither possible, nor realistic. Some teams will always have an easier road than others.

Also, the "stubborn tradition" that you refer to maintains some of the most intriguing matchups of the NFL season. Would a Giants/Cowboys game have the same appeal if they weren't in the same division?

THATS THE BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT IT... YOU CAN KEEP AFC, YOU CAN KEEP THE NFC WEST AND SO ON, ECT. ECT....
BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE PLAYOFFS WHY COULDNT YOU MIX THE BRACKET. THEY ALREADY LABEL THE AFC SIDE, 1-8 TOP TO BOTTOM... SO WHY NOT PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER FOR THE PLAYOFFS, LABEL THEM 1-16 AND AT THE END......WE GET THE BEST OF THE BEST!
