It's a reality because it costs them money. The customer isn't first and foremost with them. They are. Don't kid yourself. I'm not saying they aren't trying at all either. I do think they've started to come around and do put out a quality title, because if they didn't noone would buy their games anymore. EA are great marketers and salesman. They are. And yes they are trying to meet our needs but they are also looking out for themselves just as much if not moreso. If they wanted to redo certain aspects of the AI it can be done. Yes it takes time and effort and a focus on certain aspects. It's their focus that bothers me. Everyone knows we want better AI and interactions and gameplay. EA knows what we want. It hasn't happened. I'd like to know why? Other than saying it takes manpower to do these things, because EA has a lot of that. They have a ton of resources at their disposal.

The OP's post is all well and good but it's really not accurate at all. It's just a bunch of butt kissing and saying EA is a bunch of really nice people which I'm sure they are. But you are what you do ultimately man. EA hyped this game like it fixed all our complaints and it really doesn't.

yes t he game has progressed and yes I agree its hard to do all these things at once when you are trying to release a finished product every year. Yes the focused on teamplay, expanding online leagues and presentation aspects. Yes it's difficult to get all these things running seamlessly when the technology in their game is progressing at the same time. That i agree with. But why say they are doing these things when they haven't. Why release a game every year if it causes this cycle? I know they have a plan and will get there ultimately, but the reality is they are milking the customer to do it.
If you think that was "butt kissing" you have really missed the point.

its all good though man i cant knock your opinion.

Re: thank you Ian and the rest of the Madden Team

I didn't really mean it that way. I was more just joking. But i know to the average consumer you market these games and EA is trying to create revenue. It's a business. If they come out and say we aren't doing this stuff and really speak the truth people aren't going to buy it. I know they aren't lying. It's kind of like a white lie. I know they are working on these things and know what's going on and are intelligent people. I also know they are human beings themselves and their company is made up of people where some people do their jobs and other people don't.. I've worked for a lot of large corporations and I know how these things go. But the thing is this stuff can be done if they really wanted to. EA's goal is to ultimately create a great football game and I know they are trying to do it in the best possible way, while also remain a business. It takes money, time and smart people to be able to accomplish these things.

Great thread GSW, Ian and the rest of the Madden team deserve a ton of praise. Madden 10 hands down is the greatest football game to date (goodbye NFL 2K5). It is so funny to read some of these ridiculous threads about the "sky falling" regarding certain game play issues. Some people really have an agenda on these forums and it shows. Unfortunately it almost makes these forums unbearable. Once again cheers to the Madden Team.

Re: thank you Ian and the rest of the Madden Team

To me what makes many, but not all, of these shortcomings hard to take across sports games in general is the fact that for the most part, these things were done right sometime before and now a few years down the road we are forced to take step back in one facet of the game or another.

Whether it was an earlirer version of the same game or the current years version of another game (this doesn't just pertain to football games), its frustrating to see problems with a game in 2009, when they didn't exist in 2005 or 2007. It's tough to accept that something was done wrong or poorly when we know in the past it has been done to near perfection.

It seems too often we are forced to sacrafice quality in one are of the game for the benefit of another. What is even worse is when this happens because of a new feature that the producers have decided to introduce that nobody wanted and will be gone in a year or two (not specific to this title). These things will always happen as priorities have to exist when you are dealing with an annual cycle, but it's one thing when something stays the same and whole different thing when it takes two steps back.

The bottom line is it's hard to accept mediocracy in something when you know it's been done better before.

I think everyone appreciates the effort, but the results are what we are paying for. If effort drove the price tag, all games would be priced differently.

I think most people who work for a living can attest that in their job they get paid to produce, not to try. I can bust my *** every day, but if my work has errors, misinformation and looks like crap, I'm going to get a kick in the *** and not a pat on the back.

Re: thank you Ian and the rest of the Madden Team

I dont thank many people for doing the job they get paid for.

Im thankful that Ian and Co. went to the lengths they did to keep M10 transparent. No doubt they set a new standard in community interaction by doing that. I hope that it not only continues, but other gaming companies take note.

With that said, the game is a disappointment and seemingly broken. The worst part about this is that EA set standards all by themselves that up until now they haven't came close to living up to. From wanting to "shut 2k fans up" or even "procedural awareness" its just too much for me to ignore the Developer Series that literary lie to my face.

Just as you say in your post, many gamers are now older (mid to late 20's). I think if nothing else that should command a bit more respect in marketing. I know the game has to have gimmicks and tag lines to sell, but to fall completely short of them is not acceptable.

At any point they could have came clean about the flaws in this game and the eagerness to fix it. Ask us to bear with them and know that we all understood Ian walked into somebody elses' mess. EA set the standard for themselves "If you see it on Sunday". Nobody but them made that and they need to be held to it by themselves more than anybody else. EDIT If they cant live up to that motto, fix current issues in the game, it does nothing but show they have no pride in the product. I wouldn't stop short of saying it also proves they have no respect for the consumers they have. I have said this in other posts but its worth saying again. Once they have seen issues first hand I don't think "Any extra time we spend on M10 takes away from M11" rhetoric should be accepted by the most diehard fan or harsh critic.

Re: thank you Ian and the rest of the Madden Team

I do appreciate the improvements they've made and and I believe it's headed in the right direction now but our expectations are high (but not ridiculously so) because we have *already* seen what videogame football can be and that was 5 years ago with 2K and even Madden last gen. The drop off was so sharp this generation that they are still trying to catch up.

And I agree with the previous poster - I thanked them with my $60 this year even though I said I wouldn't. The thank you should be reciprocal.

Re: thank you Ian and the rest of the Madden Team

I'd like to thank Ian and the Madden 10 Team as well. They put a lot of effort into this game and it shows. Madden 10 is a great football game and I'm enjoying every second of it. It is not perfect, but what game is perfect? It certainly has flaws, but every game does. I think the word "sim" is the most overused term in video game history. It's ridiculous. That's all I hear. Sim Sim Sim Sim Sim. Stop using it. People expect way too much in terms of video games. Madden 09 was pretty bad. Can we honestly expect, in just one year, for Madden 10 to be the greatest game ever? No. So why are people upset? All I've been hearing is "Yes the game is an improvement from 09, but it's still a disappointment." Why are people disappointed when this is what everyone should've realistically expected? I knew from the get-go that Madden 10 wasn't going to be the best ever. There's no way they can take a game that was so bad(Madden 09) and turn it around and make it the best game ever(Madden 10)in just one year. It takes time. Madden 10 is a huge improvement from 09, and you're very ignorant if you disagree with that statement. Madden 10 is a game headed in the right direction. Hopefully we see a patch released in the coming weeks to fix some of the flaws/bugs in the game. And I've already found a great slider set for me which plays some great games in my franchise. I'm enjoying every second of this game and can't wait for Madden 11 as it will only get better.

I think it's great that you, Apex and others bring out the issues Madden has as you would like to see them get fixed.

Did you actually think everything would be fixed in a year, though, especially all the videos that you and Apex manufacture?

I also think some people really take the You See in on Sunday too literal. Again, it's not going to happen all in one shot.(sorry Taz, I disagree on that one)

I can admit that I see much more on Sunday in Madden 10 vs Madden 09. That includes gameplay and presentation wise. I will also admit their are glitches inside game play, that at this time, I can live with because the fun factor is overriding those glitches.

I'm sorry that isn't happening for you.
