Well it could as you can find 7th round players with "A" potential. I see both sides of this. I want is progression that is mostly based on production but there has to be a limit for some guys. Head Coach did this very well.

My example is look at Randy Moss and the Vikings. They had Jeff George pass for almost 30 td's in like 13 games. Was it because Jeff George went from a 70 rated player to a 90 rated player, or was it because of the offense and Randy Moss?

After Daunte passed for 39 td's and had QB rating of 110+, he should be a 99 rated QB going into the next season, but in real life he dropped way off before he got hurt without Randy Moss and should be rated by Madden in the 70's

Now should the George, and Culpepper's rating fluctuate from 70-90, or 99-70 or were they really QB's that should have Madden rating in the 80's and their situations produced the disparity in the stats?

I liked how in Head Coach you could draft a guy like Jack English and if he played well he could be a 99 rated QB, but if he didn't he would stay in the 80's, and the rating increases were based on production for example if Darren McFadden had multiple years of catching 70+ passes he would eventually have a 90 rating for catching, but if he didn't he would stay in the 50's.

So far the progression system looks ok, I do wish it would progress you every few weeks to make for breakout seasons, and it would be nice to be able to "scout" players from other teams to open the potential rating.

The more Madden moves towards what Head Coach had the better it will be, Josh and Donny did an amazing job with the game and mixing Madden graphics and gameplay with HC off-season franchise stuff would make one heck of a game.

In fact, the opposite of what you said is true. In the last gen franchises, Tom Brady, Terrelle Davis, and Deacon Jones would have probably never seen the field because their rookie rating would be too low. If they did see the field, they wouldn't have the attribute ratings to perform well, and they would have regressed (unless you made an effort to pad their stats which wouldn't reflect real life). This year there are many late round gems that can reflect the careers of those players.

The performance based progression is wrong. The current system is much better. Brady didn't start a 60 and earn 6 points a year because of his performance. He produced his performance numbers because of his abilities, not the other way around.
But the problem is, he wouldn't have been rated an "A" and progressed at all under the current system... So in franchise mode that would never ever be possible. And that is what we're talking about, that is what we want.

Actually in the current system there are QBs with an "A" potential and a low overall that go in the late rounds and do progress exactly like Brady or Romo or even Warner. You are just basing your problems with the system on current players when those scenarios are in the game with the players that are created by EA in there draft classes.

With the current draft class the potentials are based on scouting reports by other organizations just like the real NFL teams use when they are drafting, and like EA uses with the other ratings.

Re: Madden 2006 Had Perfect Progression

The only thing that bothers me about progression is that all the younger players in the league dominate. For example, all the first round picks in the '09 draft are amazingly succesful. None of them become busts and none become gems. This should be changed.

I agree that it works with new drafts and new draft classes. But just like you said... it's a problem with current players. Patrick Turner might be great but he never has the chance. Essentially, there can't be a Tom Brady with current players and that's why I prefer progression from Madden 06.

It seems like you want franchise progression to mimic what will happen in the NFL in the future. I'm sorry, but you aren't going to get that with any offline franchise. Like someone said, once you start your franchise, real life is out the window. There are too many variables that determine how your franchise is going to play out. In one franchise, my favorite rookie may have a career ending injury, in real life he may have a HOF career. The devs have to make an educated guess at how a player's career will play out. They won't be perfect which is why I do agree that the user should be able to change a player's potential.

If a player has a breakout year in real life, their abilities will be re-evaluated by the dev team. But that should not be confused with progression within your franchise.

So who is going to re-evaluate the players in my franchise?
