Enlarged pulsating passing icons ?

As everyone knows now, PA is a new feature in madden and NCAA that requires players to turn around and actually see the ball, before reacting and making a play on it. This is great, but nothing has been said about how PA will effect the quarterback play in Madden and NCAA 10.

If the QB is going to have to look at a WR prior to throwing him the ball, something needs to put in place that's indicates where the QB is actually looking. Bringing back the vision cone would be a solution; however, a lot of people hate the vision cone. So Instead of having a cone to indicate where the QB is looking, why not just enlarge the passing icon and have it pulsate or throb to indicate that the QB is looking at that receiver ? If the QB doesn't happen to be looking at a receiver you want to throw to, press the corresponding button once to get the QB to look at that receiver, and once the icon is highlighted, press the button again to throw him the ball.

The higher the awareness rating, the faster the passing icons will be highlighted.

Totally agree and I think this is the best way to go. I posted this in the other thread as well.

"I think the double tap is the best way to go. When you hike the ball the quarterback is set on his primary receiver so you only have to press the button once to throw to him, anyone else you have to press their button to look at him, then once again to throw. I think that's the best way to do it."

From what Ian has said so far PA is only cosmetic for now...it does not have an effect on the gameplay.

Even if it doesn't have an effect on gameplay this year, it is really promising for the future.

I have a feeling it will be included in Madden 10 as some type of gameplay effect, however small it may be.

Quite the opposite actually...from one of Ian's first gameplay posts...

"So the videos really just showcase the technology…not how we implement that technology in our game to actually change the way the game is played. My story above about getting picked off by a DB that can’t see the ball? Well now we can make a DB track the ball realistically and we’ll make sure that he has a true line of sight before he can make a play on the ball. And if/when he gets burned, he can dynamically look down and shake his head with zero new animations or engineering support"

I would say that is anything but cosmetic. Also,in another thread Ian stated that a side effect of procedural awarness was how cool it looked, this again points to the fact that it is a major gameplay enhancer and not just a cosmetic tool.

Exciting stuff

IM cool with this idea, I would rather the cone cause it makes looking off defenders easier. I know the icons getting larger can do the same, but how large, or maybe the player can be highlighted. My problem with the icon getting bigger is that it can cause your view point on making a play on the ball a problem.

I also don't think awareness should be added into this feature. You press the button and he looks it should be the same with all, for someone to have his qb look slower cause his awareness is lower is going to cause huge problems for the community overall.

The player being highlighted might be the next best thing.

PA being cosmetic is basically no different than head tracking, which is already in madden. PA is going to effect game play as players have to turn around and see the ball before reacting and making a play on it.

The refs are actually going to have head tracking in Madden 10.

Correct. Ian has also said in this PA blog..

"This is definitely pretty cool stuff…we can tune how fast the player switches between different targets, and then also how he behaves when he locks on and follows a target. You can already envision this being used by DB’s and WR’s when the ball is thrown, QB’s as they go through progressions, safeties as they drop in zone, and obviously many more cases."

So he has admitted it is going to be used for QB progressions, but the million dollar question we are all trying to answer is; how will this be handled? What will trigger the QB to look through his reads? There's definately no cone this year so surely it has to be buttons?

It can't happen automatically as then we'd be back in the same situation as before; throwing to recievers we weren't looking at.

So just how are we going to control a QB's progressions??
