The problem is the lack of a progressive fatigue system. (If you play the games. Simming the stats doesn't work correctly; it's broken)

Run-oriented offenses in the NFL don't mind pounding the rock up the gut when they only net 2-4 yards a carry at first. They know that eventually the defense will wear down, and those same modest gains will become big chunks of yardage (5-10 yards a pop) by the time the fourth quarter rolls around. Punting a few times early is no big deal in this scenario. Teams know that their dedication running the rock over and over again will eventually pay dividends in the fourth quarter.

When you get teams and players finally run the ball like NFL offenses do, your linebackers will get their tackles.

So what does this have to do with fatigue? If there was a progressive fatigue system in place, pounding the rock over and over would become an actual Madden strategy - wearing down the defense over the course of the game. Right now it's just easier to run outside or pass the ball. If people ran the ball off-tackle 25-30 times a game, your linebackers would make more tackles. However, unless you are playing really long quarters, it might not match the tackle numbers of an actual NFL linebacker.

Players don't get progressively tired in this game; they get a little winded, sub out for a few plays, then sub back in. Once the defense leaves the field and returns, for the most part everyone is 100% again.

15 minute quarters and I see 20-35 carries a game by the CPU.

The problem I've been seeing is that the D-line makes too many tackles in the running game during games being played out. If the runner isn't getting to the second level then it's impossible for the linebackers to get tackles unless they're blitzing.

Yeah but the point isn't about how many carries you see, it's about progressive fatigue.

If you turn the auto sub way down, and fatigue up those guys will get tired. Now I don't know what effect that will have on gameplay, but if they get tired faster and never come out, they'll be fatigued anyway.
