How to combat LB at DE

How do you combat someone who puts a fast LB at DE and speed rushes?

He killed me and I had zero time to throw anything. I tried running at him - no luck. I tried quick passes but he bumped my receivers at the line and stopped any quick passes. I tried running up the middle - no luck.

I did manage a few quick passes to the slot breaking out to the flat but that won't get you down the field very fast.

Tips?

He should be weaker than a DE, your Tackles and Guards should be able to rock him back and pancake him. Their strength and size should let them push him out of the way without him causing you much problems unless they have good finesse moves and can slip around them.

At least that's how I see it on sunday.

Depends on who the OLB at DE is. If it's a superstar like James Harrison.. just avoid him. If it's a weaker one like Dumerville run right at him and let your OT maul him.

If he is rushing wide off the edge, step up and allow him to rush pas you and your tackle should be able to protect you long enough.

As long as he's not getting a good inside rush, you should be able to step up into a clean pocket and either pass the ball or take off for a few yards.

Once you beat him a few times stepping up and taking off, he'll back off.

A weak one like Dumervil?

Have you watched any NFL games lately?

Not to mention I have him on a couple of my fantasy drafted online leagues and he's a beast at DE.

On passing plays I'd keep the back in and block. Shifting your line might help also but will leave you wide open on the other side. Screens might also help. On run plays I'd take out the TE and replace him with my next best OL.

Hope I didn't say too much!!!

Weak against the run. He's small. I'd run right at him. Harrison is a physical phenomenon so that's a different story. Dude squats 1000+ lbs and benches 800+! That's squatting 4 times his weight!

Dumerville just came to mind when I thought stud pass rusher but small LB in a 3-4 scheme. Maybe I'm wrong, but he's pretty small and I could imagine him getting mauled by OT's in the run game.

I'm well aware that Dumerville leads the league in sacks yadda yadda. I watch too much football I think lol.
