    Player Attribute Inflation...AGAIN!

Just downloaded all of the rosters (now that we can get them except for the Vikings and Redskins) into a spreadsheet. I have noticed that several of the core ratings' averages have gone up. Last year the average SPD was 72, AGI 73, ACC 79, STR 71, and JMP 66. Now this year SPD is 74, AGI 74, ACC 81, STR 71, and JMP 68. What do you guys think? I personally feel that the average NFL player's attributes are getting out of control like it was a few years back...pretty soon we will be loaded with guys who are all 99s if this keeps up! Thoughts?

Did you type in Cardinals or Cards? I typed in both and couldn't get them.

EDIT: All I get is the names. No ratings.

I don't think an avg of +1 or +2 is to worry about.

When dealing with such a big database it's hard to keep the averages the same and all that.

It's kinda best not to compare to previous seasons and just take this years how they are and work around that really.

Well consider that this sample is the SAME SIZE as last year's. In other words, roughly the same top players in the league except for rookies who have been added and scrubs that have been deleted. There is still an increase in these attributes which is statistically significant.

way too many 90+ let alone 99s. There shud be at most 5 players above 90. Then we'll get ratings that matter, instead of 22 TERMINATORS on the field.

I don't think a wholesale comparison of attribute averages is really fair. You should at least be comparing position-by-position and even then it's only after playing the game that you might be able to really see/feel any difference. If locomotion works like it's supposed to, then a slight escalation in the average player speed rating might be in order.

If you want to make a statistical comparison of the ratings, I'd better be seeing some standard deviations or something. Average doesn't mean much.

I completely agree!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything you said. It is always subtle. But they get more praise for raising guys then they get praise for lowering guys. So its bound to happen.

I would say those are negligible raises, and nothing to worry about - particularly as the new emphasis on Agility and Acceleration means those stats may have to have been emphasised.

You are also always going to get slight ratings creep, because EA (sensibly in my opinion) are loathe to drop a good player's ratings through the floor because they had a bad year, but are more likely to boost the NFL's new latest weapon.

                        nope..those aren't negligible...because they're AVERAGES.

right as usual DCEB...noticed it too. on the individual level just looking at the ratings.

only elite players should be 90+ (less than 25 guys in the entire NFL)

how's it affect gameplay? simple...it makes the good players TOO GOOD, and the bad players TOO BAD. ever had AP go for 200 yards in one half and wonder why? ratings that are too high...some of you guys are gonna wonder why Dez Bryant (who hasn't done diddly in the NFL yet btw) is owning your starting corners so easily...until you see his 89 catch rating (higher than 6-time pro bowler jason witten) or his ludicrous 88 catch in traffic rating. a rookie with the stats of a guy who's a multiple pro-bowler? WOW. ever seen manning or brees throw a how-in-God's-name pass through 3-4 zone defenders that should have easily been batted down or at the worst intercepted? too high ratings again...250 yard receiving games by Moss, unstoppable Rocket-Catching by tall WRs or 5 sack games by peppers? guess who's the culprit?

thats right...those too high ratings. that MLB that jumps into the air 6 feet to snag a ball thrown to a guy 20 yards behind him? you'll never guess why...INFLATED RATINGS FTW!

alot of you guys LIKE stuff like this, people looking for a simulation? NOT SO MUCH...it hurts gameplay. PERIOD.

The STDEV for SPD is 13, ACC 10, STR 15, AGI AGI 14, and JMP 21.

So because I can find out the average for a player at every rating for every position, what should the average for the 5 core ratings (SPD, ACC, AGI, STR, and JMP) be? 70? 75? Or stick with what Madden already has for them (74, 81, 74, 71, 68)? What does everyone think?

If you're going to standardize around this core set of attributes, I still think you should do it position-by-position and not the average of the entire league. You might also want to consider doing this AFTER the free agent attributes are known. That will further bring down the averages.
