I hope they take the opportunity to rebuild the game. And I hope I'm still into video games by then.

Though I dig NBA 2K & The Show, Football is my favorite sport and had been my favorite gaming genre until this gen. Madden hasn't lived up to my expectations. I doubt basketball and baseball will be enough for me to purchase another console.

Here's to Madden shocking the hell out of me in the near future!

I don't see why this is worth stressing over until it gets here, and then speak with your wallet if you are dissatisfied.

it's going to be great for me because i buy and play a helluva lot more games than just madden. but even then, the launch lineup usually sucks. seems to take about a year for things to get rolling. but if history repeats again, madden will still be in catch-up mode after that first year.

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

The quality of Madden has nothing to do with the consoles they're developed on. We will see Madden reach it's full potential when another viable alternative forces Madden to do so. That, and they (EA) won't be spending 70 million dollars a year on licensing fees.

Here's my optimistic side for those of you who didn't think I had one: maybe the 18% decrease in sales was enough for EA to push themselves to the limits of their potential this year; They're not spending 70 million in licensing fees this year, and how much sense does it make spend a lot of money on marketing when they can't be sure if there will be a season. The up-coming season is a big part of EA marketing campaign. Why spend a whole lot of resources on marketing when the biggest component may not be there ? Maybe they'll put some of the money they saved on the licensing, this year, towards development.

Of course they could always put it towards that extra year that they signed with the NFL.

How was the progression from PS1 to PS2? Same thing, 3 steps backward?

I wonder also how the progression was from Nintendo to PS1. I don't recall hearing any complaints, but I could be wrong.
There was something different about the transitions from Genesis, not Nintendo, to PS1, and PS1 to PS2. I can't put my finger on it though.

There is no telling what will be of madden in 5 years when the next Gen comes out. There could be another company along with EA making a NFL football game. But I truly wouldn't worry about madden for aleast another 7 years aleast for the next Gen Console. Mainly because the Next Gen console that comes out will be anywhere from 600-800$ when it comes out. Not alot of people will be buying those next Gen systems straight out for the first few years because of the price tag. I think Madden will be fine going forward for years to come.

If the new consoles cost $600- $800 right out of the gate, it will be a huge mistake. You're right; virtually no one will buy that.

It all depends. Look at people rush to buy the ipad at $500 a pop. If it is marketed right and can do a lot more than gaming it would sell. On that note what if Apple made a console. All the Apple-ites would buy it immediately.

As far as Madden goes, the transition from PSX to PS2 was unbelievable. I still remember rushing over to my friend's house who had a PS2 to start a franchise. The franchise mode was a step up from the PSX, the customization took a big step up (visors, arm bands, different facemasks, and the game play was so smooth compared to PSX's herky jerky style.

The transition to the xbox 360 was entirely different. Everything i mentioned above got drastically worse. I don't know what the people at EA are thinking. I haven't bought Madden in 3 years, because it's the same game and the end result is me paying $60 of my hard earned money to be frustrated.

When the new consoles do come, here's to hoping the Madden teams pulls off a PSX-to-PS2 like transition.
