For those who remember and worked on it did you look downfield simulating reading defense and looking at recievers while using periphial vision to dodge the balls? Cause that's what you're doing in Madden. You're not looking at the rush. If you are you're not looking at the pass defense. Give or take.
There were 4 or 5 dummies with button symbols on them downfield and one would flash red at some point while you were dodging the balls that were being shot at you from different angles. You then had to hit the corresponding button before getting hit and within a short time window which simulated the receiver being covered again.
It was actually a good challenge and made sense for a way to improve your QBs ratings in franchise. I can't remember if it was only available last gen though or if it ws also in 09.

As long as I can turn the option off I don't care. To me, the way it is right now is realistic because I take plenty of sacks because I'm looking downfield for a receiver. When I pick up a blitzer on the blindside and take off I'm no longer looking downfield and that's exactly how it is for a real quarterback. Just because the head of the animated player is still looking downfield doesnt matter to me because my attention was still drawn from the receivers to the guy breathing down my neck

I agree with everything there but would just like to add that if something like this took a significant amount of dev time then I'd be against it. I just don't see the value here of making the game easier. Yeah, I could turn the option off but I'd rather them not waste significant time on a feature that makes passing easier and that I'll always have turned off.

The problem is; not many people want this because they're all a bunch of scrubs who don't know how to sit in the pocket and read the defense. Having that option isn't asking much, too. They could give us a hardcore mode and a regular mode. Hardcore is for people who don't back up over 5-6 yards and enjoy sitting in the pocket going through their progressions.
How does a feature that would give control of your QB in the pocket to the CPU so the user can solely focus on his receivers make the game more sim/hardcore/challenging? It seems to do just the opposite cuz users won't have to worry about the rush anymore.

EDIT: Ok, I see your point in the other thread Villio but I still think a feature as suggested in this thread would just make passing easier. To combat cheesers running 20 yards back to the right and then throwing perfect strikes downfield to the left something needs to be done about the accuracy taking a huge hit. Throw on the run is a good rating to help combat this if it worked a bit differently but it should also take into account that you are either running in the direction that you throw or that your QB will go into a long setup animation when throwing across his body and that across the body throws should take a big hit no matter what.
Fortunately I've mainly only played against sim guys in online dynasties/franchises and don't play randoms online so I haven't really seen this work much anymore.
