Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

Free Agency

Just before the free agency period began, the Bucs cut ties with Blaine Gabbert, eating $8 M on next year's cap. With the Bucs not going to carry 4 QBs (they may not carry even 3 if they don't sign a veteran in free agency as the team would not need to carry 3 young QBs), this was seen as an expected move as the team is likely to pursue Jase Harris or another prospect out of the draft.

The bidding on Jase Harris was intense as expected with the offers flying in nearly in rapid-fire fashion. Quickly, the price shot up to $58 M over him over 6 years. The Bucs finally got in at $59 M but then the price broke $60 M and that made the team bow out, perhaps gun shy over how Gabbert worked out and the progress of Stewart.

The Cowboys won the Harris sweepstakes with a bid of $61.5 M over 6 years.

Bucs signings:
C Maurkice Pouncy (91) for 16.58 M over 3 yrs.
OLB Aldon Smith (79) for 4.52 M over 2 yrs.
K Nick Hamilton (85) for 2.43 M over 2 yrs.

Other major signings:
DT Trevante Montgomery (80) to Arizona for 28.79 M over 5 yrs.
RT Kyler Miller (83) to Carolina for 27.61 M over 5 yrs.
DE Adaviyan Cole (83) to Carolina for 27.41 M over 5 yrs.
QB Jeremy Darr (80) to Pittsburgh for 27.39 M over 5 yrs.
DE Maurio Woods (85) to New England for 26.51 M over 3 yrs.
OLB Gerron Brown (89) to Carolina for 19.72 M over 3 yrs.
OLB Dewayne Franklin (86) to Carolina for 13.95 M over 3 yrs.
DE J. J. Watt (84) to New England for 11.91 M over 2 yrs.
QB Christian Ponder (83) to St. Louis for 15.00 M over 2 yrs.
QB Sam Bradford (82) to New England for 12.52 M over 2 yrs.
WR Julio Jones (83) to Carolina for 8.97 M over 2 yrs.
OLB Charlie Morgan (84) to Carolina for 7.45 M over 2 yrs.
TE Brad Lloyd (86) to Houston for 17.18 M over 6 yrs.
WR Keenan Grady (81) to Carolina for 19.89 M over 5 yrs.

Notable Unsigned:
K Jaxon Vaclav (95) - Surprising, though perhaps no teams needed kickers but the one he snubbed (the Bucs).
TE Rob Gronkowski (85) - Surprising he went unsigned.
HB Taran Garrison (85) - Scared by his (lack of) production?
OLB Demarcus Coleman (84) - Interesting that the players around him in OVR were picked up...and he was left behind...
HB Mark Ingram (80) - If the Bucs didn't have Collins...
OLB Jerod Mayo (80)
OLB Clay Matthews (80) - Mayo and Matthews are a little shocking that no one took a shot on them. Bucs went after Aldon Smith figuring these two were getting bids...
QB Mark Sanchez (78) - No takers here, probably an injury pick-up, though...

In all the Panthers signed 12 free agents, most of any team, and many of them looking like potential impact players. They seem determined to knock off the Bucs, loading up on LBs and DEs to counter the Bucs run-first offense.

"Wow, so Hurricane [Gerron Brown] went to our arch-enemy? Well, at least when we pound his new team, he won't be surprised. He knows how we do it," Gibson commented.

One wonders if Brown will give insider knowledge on how the Bucs offense works, considering he's practiced against it every week for years. Not to mention his knowledge of the defense considering he was a key player in many of the schemes over the years.

"I'm going to enjoy these games against those guys [the Bucs]. A lot of great memories and I still get to be a part of this awesome rivalry. That was a big part of my decision, " Brown smiled.

As far as the Bucs' signings go, Pouncey will be moved to LG to help shore up the interior line. Since the team has little success developing lineman, bringing in a vet like Pouncey could do a world of good. Aldon Smith is waning in the later years of his career, but he still has his excellent pass rushing capabilities. This will likely see him come in on pass rush downs, probably seeing a lot of time in the 2-4-5 as a DE, the 3-4 as an OLB, and probably the Psycho and 3-3-5 defenses as well.

Pro Days

Going into Pro Days, the team scouted the QBs on their list and several of the lower round talents. Here's some results from the more noteworthy performances.

QB Dylan Braithwaite - looking like a potential steal as a 5th round projection. He keeps his body under control and eyes downfield when on the move. Has the athleticism to grab some yards on the ground and he hit the intermediate routes solidly.

QB Bruce Goodwin - decent showing, didn't hurt his stock any. Some inconsistency on the intermediate routes but sharp on the short throws. Not a natural throwing on the run, but not terrible either. Good at selling the play fake for a rookie.

QB Jack Clark - bit of a surprise with his showing as he was another that looked more comfortable on the move than stationary in the pocket. Good at selling the fake as he ran the option in college. Problem, though, is in his short passes. He suffers from overthrowing and then starts aiming the ball.

HB Amos Haynes - disappointing route runner. Team had hoped that his quickness would translate. Would have made him sought after as a weapon out of the backfield. Still, a strong, balanced runner with great speed and quickness, but he's a lot like Easton Reed, so the team may not seek him out.

LT Ranoy Marshall - strong and looks like he uses leverage in blocking. Big plus for him is that he has very good stamina. Didn't even seem winded after a game.

OLB Scott Goodwyn - not a pass rusher but a pass defender in the making. Solid awareness in space and goes after the football when its in his area. This makes use of his quickness and plus speed in good way, but may struggle in run support since he's not great at getting off blocks.

OLB Shaquelle Kelly - we don't need linebackers, but we might not can pass this kid up. He's a very balanced, well-rounded athlete and linebacker. Not bad in space in zone coverage, has the quickness to shoot the gaps, and will explode towards the ball carrier and transfer that momentum into his tackles. He's also a natural pass rusher, using his power when bull rushing and knows how to dip his shoulder when rushing outside to give himself an even greater advantage. He could already be a sacks leader in the NFL. Exceptional stamina - went through his drills like it was an every day thing and maintained his intensity no matter how long he was on the field. Still concerned about his overall durability though. He plays recklessly, sometimes throwing away his body. That can come back to bite him if he doesn't use more discretion.

MLB Taurean Favors - relies on his good first step in order to make plays, but his lack of speed will mean he will need to always be in the right spot. If he does get to make a hit, he comes down like a ton of bricks. This can also intimidate receivers coming into his zone.

CB Tyler Jones - we tried to wear this kid out and couldn't. Amazing conditioning with not an ounce of extra fat on his body. That lithe frame lets him make acrobatic plays on the ball. Maybe we could use him as a WR and try to develop his hands for more consistency over time...? If we can get him in the 5th or 6th round where he's projected...

FS Aspha Nealy - ballhawk, that's all that really needs to be said. He uses his jumping ability and hands to snatch the ball and take it at its highest point. Has the quickness to play center field in cover 1 and is a good eraser in case the front seven slips up. When he has the ball, he's a threat to make a good return with it as well.

Individual Workouts

In the final look at the kids before the draft, the Bucs focus on the following players:

QB Bruce Goodwin (84/A) - Hmm...nothing standout about him, though scouts predict he'll be great in the future. He may be, but doesn't have anything that really jumps off the page. We'd take him if we get him, but he may not be a priority, or a make-sure-we-get-him. We thought he might be trade-up material, but doesn't appear so.

QB Dylan Braithwaite (82/B) - Another that might have limited upside, he still looks like a solid prospect. Nothing came up that makes us think less of him, though his ability to read defenses still needs some work. That may stop him from being a first year starter, but if we get him, he'll be a contender as his mechanics and mobility are better than Stewart's.

OLB Shaquelle Kelly (86/A) - Seriously? Injury history has to be the only reason he's a 4th round projection. His knowledge of the game and ability to dissect plays is very strong for a rookie. Do we take him with our 1st round pick? Given his projection, we probably could get him. We might get him in the 2nd round, but do we want to take that chance that someone steals him out from under us?

CB Tyler Jones (85/B) - Solid kid, he looks like he'll be able to do anything asked of him right out of the gate. Good press coverage technique gives him an edge even over the current corners on the roster. Upside from here, however, is a question mark. Scouts think he might be as good as he'll get and are grading him accordingly.

FS Aspha Nealy (80/A) - Cemented his place on the board. Has the makings of an excellent free safety. Team might not get to draft him, however, depending on how many teams scout him and if safety is a pressing need. Not sure if we trade up for what amounts to a back-up in his first year, but it is not out of the question, considering the struggles we had at the safety position, health-wise.

Bucs Projected Draft

Rd 1 - FS Aspha Nealy
Rd 2 - OLB Shaquelle Kelly
Rd 3 (via NE) - QB Dylan Braithwaite
Rd 3 (via SD) - SS Domico Mays
Rd 3 - OLB Scott Goodwyn
Rd 4 - LT Ranoy Marshall
Rd 5 - CB Tyler Jones
Rd 6 - P Trevor Stephens
Rd 7 - WR Keylo Fitzgerald

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

The Jags made it to the Super Bowl behind the sudden growth of Clinton Derricotte. They made it through the Ravens in the divisional round 34-24 and then beat the Patriots 34-27 on their way to face the Sehawks.

Seattle came out tough and pushed the Jags around. The Jacksonville defense couldn't do it by themselves and the offense behind Derricotte ended up flubbing when it mattered the most.

Jacksonville loses to Seattle 30-11.

The offseason is young... but one thing is certain... The city of Jacksonville blew it and their team is leaving after next season. The destination?

Los Angeles... and now they aren't the Jaguars... They are the Sharks.

To make matters worse, their GM, Cre8 has decided to resign after seeing what he called "A complete clusterf*ck in management and ownership..." with the city and fans showing just as much stupidity as the team we aren't surprised to see him go.

His destination... unknown for now.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

Cre8 Buys The Bills, Desires To Keep Them In Buffalo

He has led the Bears and Jaguars to Super Bowl appearances from the Front Office and now he will be trying to be an owner. With a group of investors based in the immediate Buffalo region he is trying to keep the team where it has been for years and he is fortunate to have a fanbase that is loyal to say the least.

First Order of Business - Fire The Entire Coaching Staff
Chan Gailey and his crew are gone.

John Harbaugh has been hired as the new Head Coach and he jumped right into the mix by hiring the great LaMarr Woodley as Defensive Coordinator. He is a fantastic addition as he brings serious improvement to the LB Corps. Sean Louder as Special Teams Coach hopes to take this chance and avoid the next Scott Norwood. Blair Matthews, a cousin of Clay and Bruce Matthews has been hired as Offensive Coordinator. He was most recently the OLine Coach at USC and was highly sought after.

Second Order of Business - Release Players That Don't Fit
It was a rough day when Cre8 and Harbaugh met with Ryan Fitzpatrick. After being told that his contract needed to be re-worked it was only a matter of time before he was on his way out the door. The bottom line is that he is already in his 30s and hasn't shown any real growth as a Quarterback in his years as starter.

The tougher situation was trying to tell MLB, Nick Barnett that he would not be coming back to Buffalo. The defensive leader of the Bills had a little left in the tank, but Cre8 and Co. felt it was time to see him go elsewhere.
..............

Bills Players That Are Still Around - For Now (Hot Seat Players)
HB, Peyton Hillis
- A second string HB with a $21 million contract?...
WR, Steve Johnson - Cre8 has no patience for a player with a big mouth and neither does Harbaugh. Johnson could potentially be gone come draft day.
RT, Andre Smith - The 6th pick of the 2008 draft has become a second string OT and still thinks he deserves a big contract. He could be gone if he doesn't change his tune.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

Rookie Scouting Rundown
Buffalo Team Needs = #1 QB, TE, OL (Depth), DE (Depth), MLB, CB,
- The Combine -
QB - Nico Perry (North Dakota St.) - 6'5" 230 lbs - After leaving Notre Dame due to a coaching change, Perry set all sorts of records at NDSU and he looks like the prototype Pocket Passer that Harbaugh prefers.
TE - Cornelius Potts (Penn State) - 6'4" 252 lbs - A beast in college, he is the best TE prospect since Kellen Winslow Jr.
MLB - Gerrell Blackledge (Missouri) - 6' 244 lbs - The second coming of Mike Singletary? He led the SEC in Tackles and TFLs... Don't judge him by his small stature, he will crush anyone like Ray Lewis.
OG - Kesnick Harrington (Nebraska) - 6'5" 318 lbs - A solid OG with athleticism is what the Bills need to drive Andre Smith. Did we mention he was an Outland Finalist?
MLB - DeAndre Andrews (USC) - 6' 243 lbs - He was suspended by the Trojans for two games after paralyzing Arizona St. QB, Jackson Thomas with a vicious hit... whether it was legal is a matter of opinion due to the camera angles available. Bottom line is that he is mean as hell.
CB - DeMarcus Montgomery (Oklahoma) - 5'9" 193 lbs - A burner with the ability to shut down any WR, even at 5'9" he led the Big 12 in INTs and Passes Defended.
RE - Dario Miles (Louisville) - 6'5" 261 lbs - He is a specimen with tremendous upside if he can stay healthy.
TE - Ace Washington (Duke) - 6'4" 256 lbs - Washington was the lone bright spot on the Blue Devils. He chose to go there for law school but was recruited as a walk-on athlete and now looks to be a first round shoe-in.
LT - Taurean Smith (Pitt) - 6'6" 329 lbs - He is called Orlando Pace 2.0, the winner of the Outland Trophy was also considered a dark horse for the Heisman... he is that good. He is the strongest lineman the Bills saw at the combine.
C - Kobi Pittman (Auburn) - 6'4" 296 lbs - Pittman is a solid SEC center with over 44 college starts under his belt.
RT- Spencer Oduh (Georgia Tech) - 6'7" 317 lbs - Recruited as a basketball player out of Nigeria, he fell in love with football and now hopes to be a Top-15 Pick.
C - Angel Pittman (Purdue) - 6'4" 296 lbs - Twin Brother of Kobi Pittman, he is one of the smartest linemen in the draft; completing his engineering degree at Purdue in only 3 years.
QB - Curtis Seifert (Delaware) 6'5" 232 lbs - Grandson of George Seifert, he caught Harbaugh's eye coming out of the same school as Joe Flacco, Seifert is slow as hell but hopes to impress with his arm.
MLB - Mustafa Owens (Wyoming) 6'3" 236 lbs - An early Butkus nominee was sidelined for six weeks after breaking his wrist. He has slipped to a 2nd Round grade but might be a steal if he is fully recovered.
LE - Marlin Jordan (Florida) 6'2" 267 lbs - Tested positive for marijuana and then ran a 5.1 40 yard dash... whatever he had going for him, it is gone.
CB - Kileon Jones (Penn State) 6'2" 198 lbs - the second coming of Deion Sanders? He is among the biggest surprises in the combine with amazing measurables... is he a combine hero or a Franchise CB?
TE - Kalen West (Hawaii) 6'7" 236 lbs - A glorified WR at TE, he was a beast when he wasn't injured... a potential risk if taken too high in the draft.
QB - Conor Graham (Boston College) 6'4" 215 lbs - He only started at BC for one year before opting for the draft after after a tumultuous relationship with coaches that questioned his work ethic.
WR - De'Joshua Belton (Ohio State) 6'1" 218 lbs - Originally a HB, he converted to WR and led the Buckeyes with receptions. His speed isn't blazing, but his hands are among the best in the draft.
WR - Lajarvis Holden (Michigan) 6'4" 200 lbs - After breaking his leg, pelvis, ribs and right hand in a car accident two years ago he is hoping to prove that he can overcome anything.
.................................................. ..............
Notable Free Agency Signings

DE - Da'Quan Bowers - 6 years, $60 Million - The biggest contract signed in Free Agency made it clear that Cre8's Buffalo team wants to dominate on defense.

RT - Bryan Bulaga - 6 years, $40 million - He is still only 26 years old and the Giants are trying to provide Eli Manning with enough protection for at least one more Super Bowl run.

QB - Ryan Fitzpatrick - 5 years, $36 million - Denver apparently thought this was smart.. but for a QB that is 32 and has never won a playoff game?... ooookay...

CB - Patrick Robinson - 5 years, $36 million - After Rasean Mathis retired it was clear that the Jags needed a replacement and fast. Robinson is a great signing that will be there in his prime... even if it means there is Los Angeles next year.

QB - Drew Brees - 3 years, $25 million - Still commanding a ton of money and attention, this puts the Cowboys in position to win the Super Bowl right now.

QB - Tony Romo - 2 years, $15 million - Romo is still in the East but on the Eagles... Dare we consider for a moment if there is bad blood between he and the Cowboys?

QB - Matt Schaub - 2 years $13 million - Musical chairs means Schaub takes over for Brees in this pass happy offense... geez, this is nuts!

QB - Mike Vick - 2 years, $12 million - He wanted to finish his career in Virginia, Season tickets are already blowing up. He wants a Super Bowl before he retires, it looks like he could contend for one, but now it is against Romo AND Brees in the East.
..............................................

OTHER BUFFALO SIGNINGS
Reggie Bush - KR - 1 Year
Jimmy Clausen - QB - 5 Year Deal

More Draft Scouting To Come!

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

PRO DAYS
Cre8 and John Harbaugh have been keeping their draft plans secret but today they made the following visits for Pro Days.

Louisville - Dario Miles (DE) - Looks like they want to set up some book-ends with he and Bowers?

North Dakota St - Nico Perry (QB) - Face it, there is no other reason for them to be in the Dakotas

Penn State - Between TE, Cornelius Potts and CB, Kileon Jones the Nittany Lions have had a lot of visitors lately. Now they are also checking out Lenzelle Gordon as a possible ROLB with DE, Walter Bennett to boot!

Ball State - QB, Ryan Kirwan has started to get some attention as a possible late 1st/early 2nd

UCLA - Checking out numerous prospects such as MLB, Gary Campbell (6'3" 252 lbs) and a couple others from neighboring areas like QB, Allen Appleby and CB, CJ Keys from Fresno State.

Alabama - Cqulin Barnes was amazing at the combine, but the Bills want to see him up close.

Duke - Ace Washington told the Bills about teammate, MLB, Demarcus Gray. Apparently he missed his senior season to take care of his ailing grandmother. She has since passed, but now he is devoting his life to football. Can you say story of the year?
OLB, Keldrick Cole from NC State was also working out at Duke.

.................................................. .....
INDIVIDUAL WORKOUTS
MLB - Gerrell Blackledge - A beast, his tackling is unquestionably the best in the draft.
CB - Demarcus Montgomery - Expect him to be taken in the Top 10
CB - Kileon Jones - Totally climbed up the boards, could be gone middle 1st
QB - Nico Perry - His speed and athleticism make him very dangerous.
QB - Ryan Kirwan - He looks like the most pro ready QB in the draft.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

week 6 Browns Vs Broncos

1st quarter

i get ball and drive down for a fg 3-0 browns...broncos get ball but pressure on manning leads to throw away's and drops... forcing a punt. browns get ball but my offense goes in tank we punt bronco's ball quarter ends.

2nd quarter

starts 3 plays in the bronco's get on board with 3 yard TD run 7-3 bronco's...but Travis Benjamin says hold on!!!!!! take's the KO back 99 yards for TD 10-7 browns...4:44 left and a sack on manning leads to a 21 yard FG 10-10 tie.browns offense goes in tank again another punt bronco's ball...yet another sack on manning leads to another fg 31 yards both sacks were huge cause broncos both times were knocking on door one was @ 1 yard line other was @ 6... so my defense came up huge both times. 13-10 bronco's...12 secs before half arnold nails a 49 yard fg 13-13 tie @ half.

3rd quarter

starts bronco's get ball but dropped pass on 3rd and 1 by nicks leads to a punt...browns offense finally finds some life and we get a 2 yard TD run by richardson... 20-13 browns...broncos ball 3rd and 5 nobody open feeling pressure by sheard manning steps up in pocket and trying throw ball away but its PICKED by MJM he fumbles haden recovers but its a dead ball where the fumble occured browns take over @ 30...browns driving and quarter ends.

4th quarter

starts 1st play of quarter is 6 yard TD pass from weeden to givens 27-13 browns... broncos ball and they drive down but have settle for yet another fg 46 yards 27-16... 7:36 left in game. browns ball but again my offense falls apart and we have punt...broncos cant do nothing they punt...browns are driving for kill shot and its a FUMBLE by gore recoverd by bronco's i challenge and its overturned browns ball still...3rd and 8 on bronco's 14 weedens sacked so we settle for 33 yard fg .... 30-16... bronco's need 14 points in 3:24 secs if they wanna force OT...2nd and 10 manning lets one fly to nicks who catches it for 80 yard TD 30-23 and im thinking oh great my defense is gonna fall apart now...we get ball and im just pounding the rock with richardson hes getting 6,7,18 yard runs 15 secs left in game richardson crosses goaline for 1 yard TD 37-23 would be the final.

Weeden finished 15-30 200 yards 1 TD, 0 INT's, 50% completion,82.6 qb rating,Richardson had 26 carries 135 yards, 2 TD's avg 5.1 YPC,Givens lead browns with 6 catches 58 yards 1 TD,Benjamin had 4 catches 85 yards 1 KO return TD,Ward lead my defense with 9 tackles,Haden had 6,DRC had 5,MJM whos been tearing it up past few games in double digit tackles only had 1 but he did get a pick,DRC had 1 sack,Robinson had 1 sack, Sheard who has been a beast last few games didnt get any sacks this week but he made his presents felt by demanding to be double teamed almost all game long he had 4 sacks in last weeks game.

Peyton Manning was 16-30 369 yards 1 TD, 1 INT, 53% completion, 108.9 qb rating,Carter had 13 carries 101 yards 1 TD, avg 7.7 YPC,Hakeem Nicks had 5 catches 151 yards 1 TD,Walker had 4 for 61,Thomas had 3 for 91,Carter had 2 for 53 yards,Moore lead bronco's defense with 7 tackles,harris,lee each had 6 tackles,clay matthews had 5 tackles,Robinson had 5,Miller had 6, Wolfe had 1 sack.

i like how my defense is playing now yea we may give up a big play every now and then but what defense dosent? and my defense is stepping up and making teams kick fg's instead of scoring td's.

were 5-1 next game is against 1-4 steelers we win this game we pretty much almost wrap up afc north because we'll be 4-0 in our division.

we've only given up 30+ points in 2 games we gave up 34 to steelers and won but we gave up 31 to cards and lost so were 1-1 in 30+ point games this yr.

AFC NORTH 1st place Browns @ 5-1, 2nd Ravens 2-3, 3rd Bengals 2-4, 4th Steelers 1-4.

wow my defense is 31 in nfl were #1 with sacks @ 18 we have 3 FR's 6 int's we had 153 points scored against us... we've only given up 509 yards rushing in 6 games and given up 1,716 yards. lions have #1 defense they have only given up 87 points threw 6 games.

were now 5-2 and 3-1 in afc north

funny thing is in that 1st game against steelers that stripped fumble/lateral thing is what cost steelers game this time it was 2 turnovers in redzone by ole weedy boy that did browns in not count pick 6 thrown by williamson. so we either left 21 points on field or 9 either way those points coulda won us this game.

next game is chiefs who knocked us out of the playoffs by destroying us 31-10 so maybe we'll get payback against them before wse go into our bye.

AFC NORTH Browns 5-2,Ravens 2-4,Steelers 2-4,Bengals 2-4 on 4 game losing streak.

Trent Richardson is 104 yards away from breaking the 1,000 yard mark for 5th yr in row.

Brandon Weeden has gone back into his slump of 2 yrs ago he has 7 TD's 10 INT's.
