Re: House Rules for Offline Franchise

here's a simple overall house rule that keeps you from getting all the great FA's and from keeping all your great (and progressing players) every year:

set an overall team rating cap.

last year, i wouldn't let my team either hit or go pass 90. so it's good, but never the best team ratings wise.

or make it 88 overall or 86. whatever based on how much challenge you want.

the point is, it forces you to priortize and to let some good players go once your team starts to get dominant. just like in real life, some players will go for more money to a lesser team.

also, with the new edit system, i plan on "fixing" CPU drafting errors and make sure every team i meet in the playoffs (all i play, sim season) drafted 2 impact players that year. so, you can fix the ratings of their top two guys if they drafted the right position. or simply determine what position they should have drafted for, and take two rookies and turn them into impact players at those respective positions.

keeps the CPU teams at a high quality.

Agreed...its really simple, and ability to intervene as much or as less as u want. Only thing you are forced to miss out on is the FA bidding, and the draft. Just come up with a system that works when signing FAs. I use random.org a lot! Say there is 5 teams needing a QB...go to random.org, 1-26 means they grab qb via Fa. 26-100, they get one via draft. You do this even if ur one of the teams to be fair. I'd go team by team, adressing needs and how they are met.

When it comes to drafting, you draft based on a combo of team need, and best available. If you feel like pick could be traded to a team to draft a position need you may do it just like it is irl.

Its seriously not difficult, trust me.

Re: House Rules for Offline Franchise

I haven't tested this out yet. but am planning on using these settings for my next franchise.

-Control 32 teams to enforce the rules listed below.Leave everything else to the computer.(I've never controled all 32 teams so that will be a Challenge)

-The thoery behind this is to keep the team talent turnover close so the same teams are not dominating.

-The team that wins the Superbowl gives up a 4th round pick to the worst team based on record.

-The losing Superbowl team gives up a 5th round pick to the second worst team.

-AFC and NFC runner-ups give up 6th round pick to the worst team in there conference that did not receive a pick from the Superbowl teams.

-team that has back to back Superbowl appearances gives up a third instead of a fourth or 5th. Back to back to back appearances team gives up a second

-If team goes 18-0 They give up a First rd pick instead of a fourth (mostly for user teams)

-There are also other ways that teams give or receive "draft round compensation" but these are the major ones.

I haven't tried these yet so I might end up adjusting what draft picks are given up. I just found a good set of sliders that produce the most realistic stats I've seen I even loose games that I should Loose.

-I am also going to limit how many FA's I pick and what there overall can be
