Re: Has Watching The NFL This Year Made You Give Madden 12 More Credit?

Watching the NFL doesn't make me give Madden more credit. Game-play wise, I don't really compare the two because that's simply unrealistic. Presentation wise, watching the NFL makes me hate Madden even more. The game has improved; there's no denying that, but the presentation is a slap in the face to consumers at this stage of the game. The commentary is hard to listen to.

As it stands, I haven't played Madden since the first week of getting it. It's just boring. The technology (other than the visuals) hasn't improved since last-gen.

IMO, they get credit when they earn it. If/when we get the patch and it fixes the main issues that are possible, they'll get credit from me.

Quite simply anyone can see the glaring differences between the nfl and madden. The kick off from the 35 yard line resulting in higher than 75% touch backs, illegal hit on a defenseless receiver...all missing. I could go on and on. Give madden more credit after watching football... I'd say it's the exact opposite. You can call me a nit picker, but if you make a check list of the things that are simply missing you can't possibly say that madden is true to the game. Is it a reasonable facsimile? Yes, but for all the praise it gets it has to be held accountable for the simplest of details that it gets wrong. If I were going for a world record for the amount of times I could hop on one foot and no one else was allowed to make an attempt.... even if I faltered time and time again I would still be the best for the simple fact that no one else could make an attempt.

The game is good, but anyone following the series and the nfl closely can easily point out the most glaring as well as the most superficial differences. Is madden a true representation of the nfl... depends on what your perception of reality is and what you are willing to accept. I myself expect more from a company that has been making the same product for more than 2 decades and they should hold themselves to a higher standard as well.
I tend to agree with the OP. It's my opinion that 12 better represents the NFL than past versions. Yes, it has it's glaring weaknesses and one of them is the penalty system.

However, I've seen more tackling below the waist vs the neck and above like we've seen from past efforts. Last night, in my game, I noticed Jennings with one on one coverage. I chucked the bomb and DB(Gamble) didn't look back once. So, it's not always the case when the CB knows where the ball is.

I've have not, yet, seen the AI run the ball out of the endzone. I've only attempted it a few times, so, not sure where you are going with the 75% rule on that one. From the games I've been playing, it seems to replicate the new ruling.

Not saying it's a true representation of the NFL, but I feel 12 is the closest I've had in a while.

Everyone's mileage may vary.

I only voted less credit cause there was not an option for "I dont give them any credit and wont for quite some time most likely". Things happen routinely in madden that the devs couldnt give you evidence of happening even once in real life, and Im talking about EVER in the history of the game. yet things like back shoulder throws that happen every game are absent from madden. this is the first time in 4 years I have bought madden and I am not even through season 1 in my franchise and already I am regretting it. all sports games have flaws, but most of them are small (exception being the show, they have some HUGE ones as well) but madden has the most in number and the most in terms of how glaring they are that it makes it where you cant even enjoy the game cause every play you are seeing you are saying "that would never happen" "that wouldnt happen either" "I have never seen that in my life" etc etc. people say this all the time cause its true, but if I was THIS bad at my job I would be fired before I could even try to explain why I was that bad. it should be the same with people that make sports games that obviously have no knowledge of sports and very little knowledge of how to make a video game period.

Not to be funny but "same credit" would have covered this considering you give them the same amount of credit you did before Madden 12 which is none. Also, it doesn't seem possible to give less credit than none.

Personally i'm tired of hearing about how Madden has "improved" every year. If you take a broken down old car with 10 different things wrong with it sitting on 4 flats and put new tires on it is the car improved? Sure, but it's still a piece of crap. Cool, you fixed 1 or 2 issues. That's nice, you're about 10% finished with an acceptable product.

Not at all. For instance with NBA2k11, I see this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_nQ_2fBRxQ

Those look like actual NBA highlight clips

Even in the most edited, cherry picked, marketing style Madden video I have seen, you get silly, cartoonish player movement that lets you know instantly you are watching a video game commerical.

It has made me appreciate Madden a bit more. The real NFL is just so dynamic and unpredictable that you're never going to get a 100% accurate representation. It's impossible.
