Is EA just doing this because they don't know how to create proper ratings.

And it sucks because we can't bring edited rosters into CCM.

Who do you guys think should be the fastest QB? Some will argue Vick because he's proven game speed in the NFL and others will say RGIII. It's clear that there are many different opinions. The key here is this isn't open to any player. It's guys who are already tied or very close in the rating already. We're not putting guys who are 95's in a category against guys who are 87's if that makes sense.
Here's the thing, the problem with basing speed on anything other than verifiable data in a universal format for all players, is that the game won't have balance. If Moore chooses to use verifiable 40 times for Speed or some other verifiable format, it really doesn't matter as long as that format is universal and the data is verifiable.

I have no idea how Madden works "under the hood" but just because one player in Madden has a higher Speed rating than another SHOULD only mean that player can run faster in an unimpeded straight line. All this stuff about players looking faster when actually playing football SHOULD NOT have anything to do with their speed rating because "game speed" as people refer to it, is the result of a unmeasurable sum of variables playing out.

So replicating NFL player "game speed" in Madden should be about universally formatting the individual in-game ratings, speed, agility, acceleration, route running, etc, as balanced as possible using verifiable data and the sum/combination of those ratings, along with other in-game variables, contact, weather, fatigue, etc, will inherently replicate NFL player "game speed".

Also, for that to be effective, IMO, there has to be a universal real world "ceiling" and "basement" established for each rating. For example, for the speed rating, using the 0-100 scale, 0 needs to be an inanimate object, 100 humanly impossible and 99 the fastest player in NFL history. The point being Madden ratings should not be based on the best and worst currently in the NFL but the best and worst ever in the NFL

All that said, IF the verifiable data being used for speed is 40 times, then Vick, Pryor, RG3.

Vick is 30+ years old if he runs a sub 4.4 I will send you my paycheck lol. Griffin ran a slow 4.38 at the combine. Dude is dam near a world class sprinter. I would say the Vick has better acceleration though.

He isn't anywhere near the fastest QB. Not even close.

Well, hey, you did say based off their fastest known times. Now you're saying forget about the known times?

I don't know what kind of times Vick is turning over at 31, but Darrell Green was still running 4.3s into his late 30s. It's not inconceivable that Vick can still beat 4.4 ...

But 40 times aside, just looking at what I've seen. I'd still give it to Vick. I know that RGIII is a world class sprinter, but I when I've seen him in pads, he doesn't look any faster at top speed than Vick at 31. Maybe he is, but I don't think it's a hands down argument.

Which underlines my issue without having a universal formula for these things. Like DCEBB has stated, as long as there is some kind of universal method for calculating degeneration potentially based on position, injuries and/or age, then Vicks age could be accounted for. However, just randomly declaring Vick slower than either of the other two without some universal method, leads us back into willy nilly guesses.

I've yet to see any evidence of him slowing down. Track speed and football speed are two very different things. Very few players let alone QBs are faster on the field than Vick. 30+ or not.
