I need something cleared up with the hit stick:

Do you point the stick in the direction you want your man to hit? Or do you point the stick in the area of the ball carrier you want to hit; for example, press "up" on the stick to hit him high, "down" on the stick to hit him low?

It's the "hit them high, hit them low" example you used.

Really? I've always just aimed the stick at the carry. Maybe that's why I whiff so much.
