What's sad is that isn't even impossible or likely that hard for a programmer. OOTP has been doing it forever. Football Pro and Baseball Pro had ratings that were easier/harder to improve based on age. Baseball Mogul has career curves that govern player progression.

It's been done. Just not by Madden - and it's been time.

I completely agree. While I have to say I'm enjoying the current progression system, I also have to say that it's not because of the football aspect of it (since it's clearly completely unrelated to football). I would readily trade the current system for something more reflecting real life.

Re: Do you have more or less hope for Madden 14 than you did before Madden 13?

The only options are more or less, so if I had to select one, I'd say less hope.

I don't think M13 is a terrible game. But, it's just the continued cycle of one step forward (physics), two steps backwards (presentation, playcalling AI) has gotten old. I expect to be impressed when they talk about what they worked on M14, but then I'll also think, what got overlooked in the process? This year it was AI, signature animations, camera work regression, auto subs, etc. What will it be for M14?

Any optimism that I do have hinges on next gen systems potentially debuting this year and Madden potentially making the launch. I'm genuinely curious (and cautiously hopeful) of what they put together.

I have a glimmer of hope in the fact that Kolbe (of MLB the Show fame) has been on the next gen Madden team and if he can't get it done from a gameplay and depth perspective, then there is no hope for Madden.

I just can't bring myself to play a baseball game. The last time I played, I fell asleep while playing with a co worker (in the 90's). I have looked at the game everyone is referencing though, and it does look good. What type of effect can this one person have though in such a short time span? Do we place all hope with the next gen system version of Madden or is the last one on this gen going to make the cut (so to speak)? Although I've heard high praise for Kolbe, what did he bring to the show that it was missing that made it so great?

I'm not being facetious, I would honestly like to know if anyone can give me a synopsis. Thanks in advance.

Probably wont by M14. I don't expect anything big because new generation consoles are right around the corner and I think they going to save something big for M15. I'll be buying NCAA 14 though and probably NBA 2k14. They never disappoint.

Re: Do you have more or less hope for Madden 14 than you did before Madden 13?

I have no hope at all...

Since the next-gen is basically here I'm pretty sure current gen Madden 14 will be a watered down version with some useless features to sell it.

I'm curious though to see if they can get the 49ers helmets color right...they've been wrong for years now. Even after playing in the NFCC game last year EA managed to get them wrong! Even the pants color was off...

Maybe playing in the Superbowl might get EA's attention to get the colors right.

And the errors on the 49ers uniforms are minor compared to other teams in Madden 13.

Fixing those 3 things would do wonders for Madden IMO
I have hope for M14 based on the fact I am still playing the game and have played it more than any Madden title in 10 years. I have concerns based on how buggy this game was and how the CPU logic got worse in some areas. I am a real fan of CCM though - the draft, free agency and in season stuff was great although practice sucked.

The three things you list will be a nice improvement. The simple and lousy DL controls are in need of a massive update. I'd also like to see more sliders like QB awareness (so we can make the CPU QB smarter on all levels), RBA instead of break tackle, a real pass coverage slider and a kick return slider. Overall the game was far too easy against the CPU this year.

But the biggest problem for me was the CPU pass defence. They play too soft most of the time and rarely disguise anything. 90% of the time your Pre-snap read tells you where to throw it and hot curl routes against the soft zones they play work far too much. The situational AI is horrible as they often play soft on third and short. Where is the adaptive AI? The CPU AI in Madden is as dumb as it was 10-15 years ago.

For us offline gamers I really hope the CPU is more intelligent next year and since this game took a step back in this department it has me concerned.
