It may turn out to be a needed addition, but as you said in the post you linked, a couple more animations and a basic logic to tackling instead of just diving and waiting for contact to trigger an animation is needed.
I feel like I see why EA did this (heat seeker) but I don't believe that ceding control to the CPU to almost literally control my player for me is going to help. The same issues we have with Ball Hawk such as stupid angles to the ball ( regardless of player rating), it being overpowered with regards to getting in front of WRs (and there being no actual fight for the ball) etc. will probably raise their head with this addition.
If they just made it so that the user was realistically able to control and affect the play, such as make tackles or try and use timing to get in front of the WR (as opposed to warping there as we see with Ball Hawk) then we wouldn't need the CPU to do it for us.
Obviously, in order for us to be able to time things right, and fairly(!), things such as speed bursts and locked in animations would need to go, so that the CPU player, depending on their ratings, can improvise within the situation dictated by the player...

I can see where you are coming from and I'm all for max User control with proper applicable real world risk/reward but Madden definitely isn't there yet. Considering where the game is at this point I can stomach some degree of automation, at least for this tackle aspect. Again, I would rather what ever the "heat seeker" button is, be a reach for the tackler mechanic but the the EAGC describes it, it doesn't seem as bad as the "ball hawk". The ball hawk will actually take over your player, which imo, goes too far but the heat seeker is stated to not move your player for you.
I think the ball hawk should be toned down to be just a more aggressive int attempt and not the complete relinquishing of User control. If a User wants to do that, they can just move the player into position, then switch off, like the old days. The actual assist button seems to completely take way from User error, which I don't like. I recently stated I would like a feature like this for KR/
PR but on second thought, it would be better to just have an option to control any of the 11 players on KR/
PR, so someone could just let the CPU return/punt/kick, if they want to.
