Same here - I'm guessing you're a Dallas fan too?

Re: 3-4 defense?

i play coach mode in m13

i play 3-4 mainly, basically because i have 4 lbers at the 49ers that are good. but i prefer 3-4 anyway for flexibility.

whether its ncaa, hc09 etc i try and have flexible playbook. i want my 11 best defenders on the pitch most of the time. therefore i use 3-3-5 2-3-6 etc and depending on whether 2nd mlb, 2nd ss, nickel back, 2nd dt tends to which formation i prefer running, obviously taking account of down and distance, state of the game etc.

i alway find it hard for my NT to get making tackles or sacks or batdowns. then again i dont find many NT prospects in the draft that fit my idea of a NT who takes 2 blockers to neutralise

it gets to the point where if im using 49ers playbook i sub 2-3-6 sam (iirc) aldon goes RE, bowman goes ROLB, best DE say Justin goes to DT, best ss goes to SS1 (ie where you normally cover 2 ss, in this form the SS1 comes down into the box) and the best remaining DB usually a S takes the SS1 position in the formation

or just use the 1-4-6 sub formation from another playbook, gets the best players i have on the field, and as i usually play man the lbers are good enough to neutralise the run

may all change in M25

Re: 3-4 defense?

I have ran a 3-4 defense for the past 4 years of Madden. I mean, I have played the 4-3 sometimes online but I just am accustomed to the 3-4 so I usually force it and move around the depth chart a lot.

I, too, have trouble getting good NT play. My NTs never really do much unless it's a run right up the middle. Because of that, I feel like I primarily run a 2-3-6 and 2-4-5. Nowadays, I only run a 3-4 if I can sense a run or want to throw off my opponent.

Also, during franchise mode, in previous versions of Madden, it was very difficult to get teams who use the 3-4, to generate sacks with a OLB. I never seen guys like D. Ware, Clay Matthews, etc. Get double digit sacks in a year.

It's extremely frustrating when I make pre snap adjustments to get Orakpo matched up against a TE, or FB, only to have the OT on the opposite, glide/shift across the offensive line to make a last second block.

Re: 3-4 defense?

I think the 3-4 is a sore spot that really shows how "unintellligent" the players on the field are, contextually. The 3-4 relies (and only works) as a two-gap scheme, by the linemen don't have actual two responsibility. Defense in Madden will continue to be a facade until players have a real list of contextual choices to make: if im the floating safety in a Cover 1 Robber, and they have 21 personnel on the fie, and AP has gashed us all day, I need to sneak into the box. Hopefully next gen can/wants to replicate real football decision making like that.

Re: 3-4 defense?

Since real physics, weight, strength & momentum are still non-existent in Madden, your want to focus your defensive lineman on BLOCK SHEDDING first, STRENGTH second. This is the only attribute that matters when it comes to a good NT. The STR attribute will sometimes get you that 'push the OL into the backfield animation' but the BLK SHED gets him off the block for both run & pass.

Just like the OL test that was performed said RUN/PASS BLK & RUN/PASS BLK footwork were the only that mattered

Re: 3-4 defense?

I saw a few double-team blocks when testing on the Demo. Of course i cant see replays.
