I'm in the same boat. If 2K9 doesn't work out, I'll be getting The Show for PS2.
It's impossible for 2k7 to have better hit variety than 2k8.That original swing stick just doesn't allow you to influence your hits like swing stick 2.0.I think Kushgamer even confirmed this by saying it was all random in 2k7.A perfect game was more common than a double down the line in 2k7!

2k7 was probably the hardest game to tweak to get rid of the HR fest, so I don't see how you can say 2k8 is a HR fest and defend 2k7 as not being one.And A.I pitching has always been crap.I remember pitchers throwing high curveballs and changeups in 2k7 too.

If your finding every slider set for 2k8 too easy, mess with the human power, contact, and step influence sliders yourself. That's what I had to do.

Probably the randomness of 2K7's hitting system is what provided more variety. When I influenced the hits in 2K8, they would often go in the exact same spot and the variety got very repetitive. It got to the point where I could tell exactly whether I was going to get a hit just by looking at the AI fielders animation as he went back toward the wall because it was almost like a canned cutscene that I had seen a hundred times before, lol. It was almost always a double, a homerun or an out. In 2K7, I get quite a bit more variety. It's obvious that both games have their own limitations as far as the variety, but I find it to be better in 2K7. Yes, there are more singles in 2K7, but there are also a lot more singles than doubles in real life as well. Singles in 2K8 are much harder to get than a double unless you force yourself not to take the extra base just to get a single.

I find 2K7 to be quite easy to get rid of the homerun fest. I rarely see more than 1 homerun per team during a game in 2K7. In 2K8, I was seeing significantly more, especially from the AI.

The problem with 2K8 is that the AI was hitting way to many homeruns, even with their batting power set to ZERO and even though I was nibbling corners and pitching as hard as possible. It's not a problem for me in 2K7.

Jeffy, 2k7's minor league set-up doesnt bother you? I hated having 2 guys on my AA squad. I dont know, I just didnt feel like a GM. Now, I haven't tried 2k8, but the thought of having all minor league teams accessible sounds really intriguing. I would really feel like a GM controlling my team and its affiliates. More strategy imo as far as drafting, promoting/demoting, etc.

I only play the big league games and only call up a guy occasionally from AAA and never from AA, so no it doesn't bother me, but I could see how it could bother others who want more of a GM experience.
