I have a roster with a bunch of historical created players, but whenever I try to start the franchise, the game just freezes. Also, if in the settings, I set it to default roster (roster the game came with), franchise loads just fine.

Don't use the historical players.

Make sure there are exactly 25 active players on every team, major and minor leagues. I believe there's a minimum to the number of players on each team who are pitchers vs position players, so check to make sure there's no conflict there either.
