I still wonder about the '88 Dodger squad, myself.

That Met squad of a few years later was the first team I got into. Kranpool, Koosman, Matlack, Seaver...that brings back some serious nostalgia for me!

Hershiser said it best when he was asked about "rising to the occasion" in the post-season. He said it's more about who does a better job of not letting the pressure change the way they are capable of playing.

You've got to remember, at that level, there isn't much to choose between ANY major league team, from the first place club to the last place club, let alone two on a roll. (A's and Dodgers)

Having played and pitched for years, the first things that change when you start to press are your mechanics.

Bash Brother home runs turned into so many pop flies.

(Besides, that series ended when Gibson hit it out in game one. The A's air of invincibility went out with that ball into the right field stands.)

The talent level on that team could quite possibly be the worst in WS History, certainly any golden-age or modern day one. Aside from Hershiser, they just did not have any long-term talent.

I also found it funny many years ago when it was pointed out that Gibson only had 1 AB that series, and yet it really was the thing that won it all and he really should've gotten MVP for it. (I don't really consider him part of that roster as far as the 'long-term' talent comment, seeing how he only had 1 AB...the rest of the team really was pretty avg. to below avg., aside from Oral)

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

I finished the 25 man roster for Cincy last night. I will have the full team completed tonight.

RW's point about good pitching showed itself as I simmed to late in the season and had a Tom Seaver-Ross Grimsley matchup.
Seaver had some early trouble, mostly caused by two errors in the field, but the Mets scored one early off of Grimsley who was throwing his junk.
Seaver had it hold up and the Mets got 3 more to have a nice 4-1 lead in the 7th.
I was "resting" Kranepool vs. the LHP Grimsley and had George Theodore in LF, moving Cleon Jones to CF with Rusty in right. A single to no man's land and then an error by Theodore opened the door for Cincy and Johnny Bench slammed a game tying HR to dead CF.
It was late and I simmed the rest of the game after that ....(and lost )
...but it looks really good.
Rose, Bench and Co. came out really nice(if I do say so myself )
A young Griffey Sr. is a tough face to do...if someone has a really good one...let me know...

I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

Thanks for the hard work!

I may be a few days late & a lotta dollars short,
but I think the 1950's pick should be the '54 Indians-Giants.
Sure the Tribe were swept in 4 games, but during the regular season
they won 111 games. Pro-rated to a 162 game schedule
that equates to 117 wins.
(more than the '98 Yankees & 2001 Mariners)
Only the 1906 Cubs had a better win percentage.

The team ain't exactly laced with household names but they should
prove to be more than enough match for NY, if programmed correctly.
In any event, any Yankees team from the '50's should suffice if the '54
series doesn't pass the eye test.

Good luck & thanks again!

If your household doesn't know Avila, Rosen, Doby.....Wynn, Lemon and Feller...SHAME!

Up for consideration...that's actually a pretty good choice. Giants/Dodgers.....Indians/Yankees are good matchups.

Thank you for your good work.

It's very refreshing this year to be able to do that with the Post Season Mode.

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

You guys are very welcome.
I enjoy creating historical rosters as much as using them...so why not?!

Okay...I finished up the Reds. They are now completely done and I set up and started the Orioles. The pitchers for the O's are complete.
I've got work the next couple of days....but the Orioles should be completed by Tuesday night...leaving just the Athletics to complete the post season teams for 1973.

Unless I have to crank out some O.T. at work...should be done by the end of the week.
