Updated Fielding Control –
Fielders will now have more dynamic reactions and take different routes to run down hit balls. The idea behind having more realistic routes to the ball was in an effort to make the players behave more like they do in real life. In the past, out outfielders would take direct routes to the ball causing the base runners to be less aggressive. The result was CPU and user runners would be less likely to score extra base hits when they should have, doubles were singles and triples were doubles.
The bottom line is that because the CPU would take direct rotes, it had an unfair advantage over the user. We’ve now evened up the playing field and with the added animations for rounding balls down the lines or in the gap, it looks and feels exactly like MLB in these situations. Extra base hits are now balanced properly and users are no longer cheated out of stretching a single in to a double when applicable. Also, using real life player fielding attributes, we’re able to scale the reaction times based on his rating. The best fielders will get the best jumps in the OF when the worst players or a player playing out of position will get the worst.
New Hot Shot Misses and Bobbles –
Last year the game had to be balanced knowing that the fielders would make almost any play that was hit at or near them, regardless of the hop or the power of the hit. This year we’ve created a hotshot system that includes misses for every hotshot catch we have. Now you will see bad hops, misplayed balls and shots that are too hot to handle. These “hotshot” type plays will be easier to make if you are playing with a Gold Glover. If you have a player playing out of position or your position player has a very low fielding attribute, you will see them more often. Not that the Gold Glovers will never miss hotshots, but they will have a higher fielding % on these types of plays.
All New Tag System with over 100 tags to make sure all situations are covered –
The new tag system was designed specifically for all bases with the catcher having his own set of tags to differentiate his position from the rest. We’ve also created a separate system for steals; back picks, and picks offs. The system will detect how far away the runner is and the orientation of the fielder in relation to the runner. The fielder has eight directional tags for every distance ranging from straight down up to eight feet away reach tags. After eight feet we have on the run tags for standing or running base runners when they may be in a slide. The system accounts for less player-to-player collision, more precision and MLB likeness.
New Risk/Reward system for charging line drives in the OF –
If you go for it, three things can happen…1.) There’s a good chance you will misplay the ball and it will get by you. 2.) You can get a deflection and have to chase it down. 3.) You will make the catch. You will also have to ability to break out of the start of the animation and dive. This can result in the same three things. You will find, over time, you may want to back off this type of low line drive in the OF and play it safe, catching it on one hop. Depending on the situation, we give you the ability to play this like a real Major League player.
Improved bunt defense logic –
In the past there were a few exploits in the bunting game you could take advantage of. We’ve improved the logic so that now the second baseman will cover first if the first baseman charges. We have also improved the catcher and pitcher pick-ups and who should get called off depending on which fielder has the best opportunity to get the out. All in all, if you lay down a perfect drag bunt and you can run a bit, you have every opportunity to beat it out for a hit. On the defensive side, if you fundamentally play the bunt right, you should get the out, maybe even the lead runner if you anticipate it. Again, another area that will play and feel like MLB
All New in game positioning system –
You can save out how you want to position your defense on a player-to-player basis.Once you get in game, you can go in to Player Positioning (by pressing up on the d-pad) and set your defense up based on your opponent’s tendencies. For powerful hitters you may want to set you OF’s deep. For slap hitters you may want to bring the OF’s in or take away the bunt. You can set this at the start of a game and they will properly position themselves for each opponent’s batter that steps up to the plate. At any time you want to change it, you can go right back in to that screen and make it happen.
Enhanced Error System (Especially for playing players our of position) –
The system will scale using the real life attribute ratings of the MLB players. Great players will make way less errors than the worst players (or players playing out of position.)
This has been an area that we’ve approved upon each and every year. This year we have even better logic tied with more animation to support it.
Legend Mode –
A fifth level of difficulty is now available for players seeking the ultimate challenge. On this difficulty level you will fear the 97 MPH fastball of Johnathan Papelbon or C.C. Sabathia. In contrast you will fear opposing batters that are feared in real life such as Howard, Braun, and Pujols to name a few.
