Re: this game caused me to gain weight

Just saw this thread. I thought I was the only one putting on weight, lol! Just in time for clothes that don't hide it Yea, I need to quit putting so much of my free time into gaming now that spring is here.

I need to cut down on the red meat too . It's not good for a sports medicine/pain management doc that works with athletes all the time to have a gut, you have to practice what you preach.

We moved here from VA Beach (where I was stationed) and one thing I'll miss is the beaches. Other than that...I was glad to get out.
I interviewed for a position at EVMS in Norfolk, VA last year. I was really looking forward to being close to the ocean. You didn't like it? (I have lived most of my life in the midwest, IL, OH, MN, IN, etc. so everything seems more exciting to me).

Quite a while back, I interviewed for a residency position at Boston University and it seemed great, but Boston was too expensive for me since I am used to midwest living. I'm a big Red Sox fan though since 1985 (Cubs since birth).

It wasn't the worst place on earth, but it's not a great city to live in if you're not military (and if you are, the west coast or Florida is preferable).

It's just too sporadic in it's layout. Every nice spot is sandwiched between a ghetto and a trailor park it seems...lol. The weather is very inconsistent (which is somewhat typical in the southeast, I suppose) and the income levels for most non-portside related jobs are disproportionally low (vastly) in comparison to other states (which is also fine for military as housing allowances are relative, but not fine for those getting out).

Wow...this thread is starting to feel like a personal history...lol.

Lol, same here. Thanks for the info. I wondered about some of those same things. Well, maybe things work out the way they do for a reason then. Funny you mention income, because my compensation just wasn't going to be enough, and then there were the family considerations. It's just hard to get a feel for an area during a short visit, so I was curious what you thought.

My friend was doing general medical officer in Norfolk, but last I heard he was stationed in Hawaii. Now THAT must be nice.

San Antonio happened because it's close enough to Houston and my wife got an incredible job offer here, which allowed me to be able to work from home and be with my son (especially nice after being in the military and hardly ever seeing him for certain stretches). So it was a win-win-win...lol.

We do plan on getting to Houston though when my wife can get transferred.
Talking about food San Antonio has some great eating places. Hop!!

I'm like that guy on the Food Channel's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". Every city I visit, I try to find the places the locals consider good food, or places known for their food or atmosphere, and then I go there. Doesn't matter how out of the way it is, lol. For instance, last year, I was in Buffalo, and ate at the first place Buffalo Wings were served. It was pretty good, can't remember the name now, oh yea Anchor Bar. Ate at the Frontier Restaurant when I was in Albuquerque last year, etc. etc. When I was in San Antonio once I wasn't there long enough to try out the local cuisine . I love food.

Yeah...there's some good barbecue and Mexican to be found, that's for sure. The only thing my wife and I hate is the Chinese. We've now tried about 7-8 Restaurants and they all sucked. The dumplings (my son and I's favorite) are always complete crap...lol.

Oh well. Not the end of the world by any stretch. We just hit up chinese spots when we go to Houston.
