Re: Who will be playing in 3D this year?

Findinghomer, here's my completely honest view after playing the Show 11 demo in 3D a lot. I never got to play the 2010 demo in 3D, so I can't compare it to how the 2011 demo looks. Overall, I'm fairly pleased with how the game looks in 3D and will probably end up playing about half of my games in 3D.

The reason I'll go back and forth is there is a very noticeable drop in clarity. For example, in 2D, Lincecum's hair has pointy strands that stick out on the sides and add a lot of detail. In 3D you barely notice it. Also, textures look a little blurry during gameplay. Not much, but just enough to notice things you never saw before when switching back to 2D. The frame rate is also a tiny bit more smooth in 2D, but overall the game still performs remarkably well in 3D. I also feel like the devs could have pushed more depth into the game in certain shots. Overall, it feels a little conservative. The last negative is the common misconception that 3D will allow you to see the ball coming towards you when batting. Honestly, this is not the case at all, at least for me. Others may disagree and think they see a difference, but the only time the ball comes at me is after a foul tip to the screen. I am holding out hope that the issues with limited depth were addressed post demo, but from what I understand the 3D was completed early on in development.

Having said all that, when the 3D works, it adds SO much immersion to the game. From the catcher views, the stadium really looks amazing and it feels like the outfield wall really is 400 feet away. The shots where you foul the ball off into the stands look amazing as you see it shoot away from you. Fielding also looks great as you can see the ball clearly flying high off the ground. The boats in the water are cool to see outside the stadium. I can't wait to see the ballparks with city skylines beyond the outfield.

Anyways, I hope this was all informative for you and makes it easier to decide whether or not to invest in a 3D TV. Since I already have one, the decision comes down to what's more important to me? The razor sharp clarity and vibrancy of the 2D picture, or the immersive depth of 3D? Because honestly, both look equally impressive, but for different reasons.

Very nice!

- I haven't read anyone's review on the Demo in 3D ...good read. I definitely want to test it out, but I don't plan on purchasing a 3D TV anytime in the next few months...maybe down the road.

3D gaming seems like an exceptional attribute for FPS's and RPG's, but will it be a success in sports gaming or will it crumble like the "minidisc" did?

Makes you think.

3D doesn't give me headaches, it just really hurts my eyes, whenever I go to a 3D movie I have to take the glasses off like every 10 minutes. I don't ever plan on gaming in 3D. I actually hope the fad continues and brings the prices of HDTVs down though, then I could get a better (bigger) one.

If I wasn't broke I would be :-) just from demos in store I can see that 3D will add another level to gaming. I was very close a few months ago where I almost bought a 50 samsung with 2 glasses for 850 plus tax.

I have not intrest in anything 3D. I think 3d will fade just like it did years ago. Anyone remember Jaws being in 3D? I do... And it was lame back then too.

The samsung ones fit over mine ok. I'd rather not wear two but they work. I was worried about that also but they are just big enough thankfully.

The biggest issue for me so far in limited time is not really lag but on a certain setting it was "slow". Not response slow but everything was slowed down overall by like 20%. It was wierd.. lol
I changed something and that cleared it up. I just like how certain things "pop" now. I'll get more into it with retail.

I guess for me is the 2D quaility of the plasma is stellar and the added 3D is icing on cake. Again to get 3D just for 3D right now probably isn't worth it BUT if you're in the market for a TV and can get a 3D model ..why not?
