Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Hmm.. Well were to start, in my Twinkies franchise were currently 2.5 games up on the White Sox with my record being 35-34 ( weak divison I know ) The Royals have now won 8 straight and are only 3 GB now.. The only trade I made before the one I just made was Kevin Slowey B pot 27 YO, Jim Hoey A pot 28 YO, and Liam Hendricks 21 YO B Pot for Mike Foltyzewicz ( my cousin ) B pot 19 yo.

I just made a trade that I'm already regretting 1 game into it. I traded Delmon Young 25 YO A pot, batting .310 on pace for 35 hrs and 100 and some change RBIs to the Dodgers for Dee Gordon SS 23 YO A pot ( 350 BA 20 rbis 0 hrs 25 SBs not very good defensivly ) Rubby De La Rosa SP 22 YO A pot ( Hard thrower but has a 4.8 ERA avgs a walk an inning ) RP Kenley Jansen 23 YO A pot ( Was doing extremely well with the Dodgers 1.3 era hard throwing righty gonna be in my bullpen for many years )

Now my first game after that trade I played my next game and went 2 for 10 risp because I don't have a big rbi guy besides young... Cuddyer was batting in his spot and went 0-2 with a strikeout and double play when there was runners in scoring position, ultimatly costed me the game...

Now for the good news.. Kenley pitched in his first game as a Twin and threw 1.1 perfect innnings with a strikeout, Dee Gordon in his first game went 3-4 with 2 SBs, and Rubby pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs 5 strikeouts... But 5 walks.

My plan is to keep Kenley up and relieve for my Twins, Call up Dee in 2012-2013ish season so he can work on his defense and maybe develop some gap to gap power, Whenever Rubby gets a little control I will call him up which at earliest will be 2012-2013 season.

I'd suggest giving Jarmillio a chance. Since I've given him a chance he's been more than productive. He has developed into a strong everyday starter for me. And yeah, I live about 10 minutes out of the burgh...so i attend a lot of Pirate games, so i like to keep the rosters up too date. haha.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Trade News:
Looking for another starting pitcher, Detroit shocks the league with this trade with Boston

Tigers get:

SP Clay Buchholz

Red Sox get:

CL Jose Valverde
3B Andy Ciriaco (B Prospect)
CF Clete Thomas

Buchholz replaces Johnny Cueto in the rotation. Cueto is moved to bullpen. Ryan Perry is promoted from setup man to closer.

Tigers also announce that Ryan Raburn has been named the starting shortstop, moving from left field. Don Kelly has been moved to the bench, and Brennan Boesch will take over left field.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

3-1 to start the 2012 season with the Royals. 30-team control, simmed the 2011 season. I made a couple trades in the 2011 season:

Royals Trade:
CP Joakim Soria
PTBNL (I don't remember who, but it was a B-pot SP)

Cardinals Trade:
SP Kyle McClellan
RP Eduardo Sanchez

Both Soria and McClellan were dominating in 2011 - at the time McClellan was 11-2 with a ~3.00 ERA, while Soria had racked up 22 saves in the first half, with a sub-1.00 ERA. When Ryan Franklin went down for the season with a torn ACL, the Cardinals approached me with a trade offer, and this is what we settled on. I'm really happy with the deal, as McClellan is my #1 starter right now (though he bombed on opening day, 2.0 IP, 10 H, 8 ER) and Sanchez is a force out of the pen.

Royals Trade:
3B Wilson Betemit
SP Jeff Francis
2B Chris Getz

Athletics Trade:
OF Ryan Sweeney
3B Kevin Kouzmanoff
SS Cliff Pennington

The Athletics were right in the thick of things, just a game back of the Rangers at the deadline, and all of the players traded were playing horribly. Sweeney was hitting around .200, while Kouz was slugging under .300. Betemit, on the other hand, was hitting .315 with 15 HRs. Francis was ok in the first half, with an ERA around 4.00 and Getz was hitting the cover off the ball in limited duty (.400 in ~60 first half at bats). I shed some salary, and got some solid players who are all with the team in 2012.

In the offseason, I was able to pull off a coup and sign Jose Bautista away from the Jays. He had a very pedestrian 2011, hitting .245 with 25 HRs - so he wasn't the monster he was in 2010. I nabbed him for 2 years at $7.5M per year. What a beast - I played with him during ST and he just destroyed the opposition. I also signed Kelly Johnson, another short term deal 2y @ $4M per.

Here's what my 2012 team looks like:

CF Lorenzo Cain
LF Alex Gordon
RF Jose Bautista
3B Mike Moustakas
DH Billy Butler
1B Eric Hosmer
2B Kelly Johnson
C Lucas May
SS Alcides Escobar

C Brayan Pena
3B/1B Kevin Kouzmanoff
2B/SS Cliff Pennington
OF Ryan Sweeney

SP Kyle McClellan
SP Mike Montgomery
SP Luke Hochevar
SP Danny Duffy
SP Aaron Crow

LRP Kyle Davies
MRP Tim Collins
MRP Santiago Casilla (off Waivers from SF in 2011)
MRP Eduardo Sanchez
MRP Louis Coleman
SU Robinson Tejeda
CP Jeremy Jeffress

I'm really happy with the team and I think we've got a chance of competing in 2012 --- Moustakas is a BEAST (I hit 3 HR in a game with him in ST) and I dominated with Montgomery as well, but we'll see if that Spring Training success translates into regular season production.

I'll come back with occasional updates. I'm seriously considering a major trade at some point in 2012, trying to acquire a legitimate ace for the team (if we're in contention). I'd be willing to part with Wil Meyers, one (or two) of Duffy/Crow/Dwyer, or maybe Christian Colon, given how good Escobar has been for me. It would depend on the return, but I could see making a huge deal to acquire that front end talent.

Sometimes i blush when i realize how much talent the Royals have stocked in the minors....If it wasn't for my stubbornness and my unwillingness to deviate from the game being realistic, I woulda prolly traded for 3 or 4 of the royals top pitching prospects along with hosmer lol......I considered playing with the Royals but i didn't wanna start the season with their top prospects.....They're gunna be a force to be reckoned with in a few years, especially if they can pay all their guys

I feel your pain, I'm now 8-19 in my Twins franchise thanks to Joe Nathan blowing a 4-1 9th inning lead last game vs the Royals. I now own a 5 game losing streak and am alone in the cellar in the central.
