That wouldn't work. You are not required to even own the game to download the Online Pass. So everyone and their sister could just download it while it's free in case they eventually plan to buy it used.

Good Call. I thought of that right after I posted.

I have been unable to download the online pass w the PS3 code. The code brings up the icon to download, and when I click download, the "activating icon runs for a few sec before "an error occurred during download code 80010023".

Any ideas? I cannot purchase an online pass either from the show store. It says "content unavailable".

That is basically a generic PSN store error. Usually it means you have to try again in a bit because the PSN store has heavy traffic.

I can unlock classic stadiums etc, but still every time I try to download the online pass I get
the "error downloading content" immediately upon clicking download.

The PS3 help people said it is likely due to the server being overwhelmed due to the release, but I have been trying off and on for two days now (including 2:45 am CST).

It is frustrating to say the least.

Re: Update regarding Online Pass redemption for the PS3 and Vita

Why can't we just use a USB cable to transfer games between Vita and PS3? Or Wifi? Or blutooth? Why must it be online?

What's the point in a game being region free if online is only accessible to one region?! I don't even play online, and still I'll be shafted when I get the game because I won't have access to any of the roster updates. I may end up learning how to set up a fake american account, but it's ridiculous to expect that of every one of your diehard fans who happens to not be American.

Count me as another Australian anxious to see these issues resolved. Not your finest hour, SCEA.

Edit: Maybe that was a little disrespectful. I don't mean that as an attack on the developers, whose dedication to this game (and these forums) is amazing. Surely there's more to this.

This whole situation stinks. That being said. I understand it. They should have a better plan in place. I'll take them unlocking the pass for everyone for a week

I think you're right in your edit - the developers probably have little control over this. It's a Sony corporate matter to decide which regions a game gets published in, and it's almost certainly a commercial rather than technical decision. Maybe Sony's MLB license is only for North America or maybe they found that sales outside North America don't justify the localisation and support costs.

However, as a UK user, that doesn't help me utilise the feature I wanted from the Vita which is cloud saves - I expected multiplayer not to work and was happy with that. However, being locked out of cloud saves and roster updates in addition to the online play does mean that users outside the US have taken a big reduction in features on the Vita game.

I'd like to think there is a "simple" solution of just unlocking the keys that come with the Vita version but I think the dev post earlier in this thread contained a message that this is a technical problem....

If you notice, the response from the devs was that the cloud save feature is hardwired to check North American PSN accounts. I would take that to mean that it is not just a case of unlocking the keys and it will work - the game will still look for US accounts for online purposes.

If that is right, we'd need an actual patch released and I can't see that happening for this issue.

I hope I'm wrong on that!

Either way, let take it easy on the developers - they can only control direct technical aspects, not regional publishing or support - but it would be great to get a specific response one way or the other about whether using the Vita key with non-US accounts is feasible for MLB 12.
