Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

Either pitchers need to be slowed down in terms of player development or batters need to be sped up. In one season at AA I can get a SP to B overall after if I can get 3 shutouts or more. However as a batter I waned to see how much I could get my stats up by forcing all the sliders to full. After a .566/.700/1.000 season I was still a D.

Not really a RTTS problem but as a SP errors are hardly ever scored for botched plays, causing me to get tagged with runs that I shouldn't have.

My biggest gripe with the mode by far is getting traded from my Phillies, especially before I make the majors. We should have either the ability to sign no-trade clauses or there should be an option in the start-up where we can review trades and veto them.

There are more small problems but overall if the trading was able to be vetoed I wouldn't even bother to play any other gamemodes because I love the RPG aspects of RTTS more the then dull progression of franchise.

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

This is a mode that I really like so I'd like to join the discussions... one at a time.

My biggest gripe with the mode is that you don't have much to do once you become a star. You can continue racking up training points and max out all the attribute ratings and keep having great years, winning MVP year after year, but that's not my definition of fun, because.... it's predictable. So I usually end up stop playing the player at that point.

I enjoy playing minor league games and the feeling of working the way up. I think there should be something more that provides different senses of accomplishments at the MLB level. (I'll add to the thread if I come up with concrete ideas.....)

Another gripe is that it's possible but not very straightforward to feel that you are actually one of the players in the organization. It's actually great that you can skip all the other aspects of the game that your player is not involved, but then I actually want the feeling of competitions from peers.

Like I play together with my teammates in minors... once my team reaches the playoff, I want to feel that's an accomplishment shared with the teammates. I try to do this by playing such RTTS games using "Results Play" or even all pitches... But I can only do this when I'm starting the game... otherwise anything that happens before you enter the game is skipped. If you are a starting pitcher, you are mostly out of luck.

And then I also want to see how my peers in the organization play... to see where I stand. It's a bit hard to do that when everything except your plays are skipped or pretty much ignored and happens behind the scene in the mode.

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

I've been playing the show since 06, and I have to say it is my favorite mode to play in any sports game. There are a few things that nearly everyone on this forum would agree needs to be addressed. I'll just list a few, along with my proposed solution to these issues.

1. Problem: Trade Logic. This is one of the most talked/complained about aspects of the show. If you choose to play with your favorite team, your probably out of luck. Most people get traded in their first year, and many get traded multiple times. Teams are usually unrecognizable by year 3.

Solution: I would like to see the option of staying with your favorite team. I know that this may take away from the realism but I think most people would not mind if it meant that they could stay with their favorite team. For hardcore realist, they could simply leave the option off and choose to be drafted randomly.

2. Problem: Money. What are you supposed to do with it?

Solution: I think it would be amazing to sign endorsement deals and be featured in ads. NBA 2k12 did a very good job in the off-the-field (or court) aspect of the mode. I also think it would be great if you could purchase historical teams to use in exhibition mode, or purchase legends batting stances. Who wouldn't want to use Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle's, or Hank Aaron's stance for their RTTS player? As your player becomes more well known, maybe put on a charity baseball camp to raise popularity. Also I would like to have a trophy case to display any awards received throughout my career.

3. Problem: Goals. Many people comment on the dreaded .300 slugging % as a pitcher goal. Someone above me talked about having to hit a home run with a speed/contact hitter.

Solution: Center the goals around the the players roles. If someone wants to play a SS with wheels, make the goal to steal a certain number of bases. In-game, the goal could be to reach base to start a rally. I'll borrow from what was said in a previous post, but a power pitcher should focus more on velocity and ks than other attributes.

The last one I want to mention is something I have been noticed while playing RTTS. Anytime I get a base hit my runner just stops dead on the base instead of running through the bag. This year is the first time I noticed it. Little Leaguer's are taught from the beginning to run through the bag. It isn't a deal breaker but it is very annoying and kind of take away from the realism factor of the game.

That's all I have for now. The Show is always one of my most anticipated games and improvements are made every year. I think SCEA is the best in the business at gathering feedback and listening to customers, as evidenced by the OP. Thanks for making a great game year-in and year-out!

First off, thanks for the feedback and the accompanying potential solutions. I/we really appreciate it. As far as this issue above, one thing we got a lot of complaints about was runners sprinting through first on basehits to the outfield (which isn't realistic). Having runners take a big turn on those types of basehits causes some AI problems that I won't get into, but the best solution we could come up with for now was having him stop at the base. It is by no means perfect, and we always try to clean that stuff up year to year, but we think it is better than sprinting into the outfield. If you are noticing runners doing that on IF basehits, that is definitely a problem and worth posting on the bug/glitches forum.

Thanks again!

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

For me the Big Thing is improving the settings when playing as a Catcher.

I'm a catcher in real life for my Varsity High School team so when I make a RTTS I would like to be a catcher my actual position, and I find it weird when I play anywhere else on the diamond.

But when I am the catcher for a AA team where there are no big name prospects in the rotation, it is very boring having to sit there for 9 innings and call every pitch and location and then have to hit once and a while.

I suggest the option to play only the plays that involve the catcher. Now I know that the catcher is involved in every play, one way or another. Either its telling the outfielders to throw to or backing up first base on a ground ball. But I'm talking about the plays that the catcher makes. So the plays I'm talking about are, steals, bunts, pop ups and the play at the plate.

For these plays, you could have the setup the same as if you were the shortstop and you know the ball was coming to you, but as a catcher, it can be where a runner is on first and the guy is stealing. You just play the pitch that the runner steals on. And the same for bunts and pop ups.

Please this would be the only mode I play if being a RTTS Catcher is more enjoyable and shorter. Thank You

Thanks for the quick reply! I thought it might have been something like that because they still run it out in the infield on close plays. I know that in real life players round the base, but I can see why this would potentially be a problem implementing. I think that you made the right choice. It may be a little annoying sometimes, but its nothing compared to how bad it would be if you were thrown out because of rounding the bag every time.

If I'm playing a power hitter I don't want to waste points meeting goals such as improving my bunting.

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

- As a few have said. I would like the money you earn as a player to mean something. Ive always taken a low contract in hopes that my team would make better off-season moves such as bringing in top free agents. If you guys would implement something into the game where we could spend the money we make, i.e name brand gear, increase popularity by giving to charities, maybe being able to purchase some new superstitions or a batter walk-up routine.

- The off-season. Its so plain, i'd like to know more about what my team is doing during the winter months. I know we can view a timeline of what deals are made, but it's been the same for the past 4 years. The off-season is too short in my opinion. We play 162 games a year (takes sometimes months in real life to get through a full season) only to go through the off-season in 20 minutes. Maybe there could be a training program in the off-season to keep you in shape. Or maybe something to do with the money that you have earned during the season. I'm not saying to make a RPG out of the off-season. Just want something more out of it. I'm sure the developers could come up with some good ideas.

- Baserunning. I haven't ran the bases in RTTS since 09. To me the camera is too close to your player and its extremely difficult to pick up the ball off of your teammates bat. I get doubled up on line drives and thrown out at home due to late reactions. I think if the camera were a little further back, or have camera options, it would make me want to run bases again. Also it would be nice to have the red pulsating cursor on the ball when on the base paths. I havent seen it in 12 The Show, but you get the same pulsating ring when fielding.

- Dynamic commentary. What i mean is that every year the commentators talk about the year 2011 when it comes to talking about players and their accomplishments. Every year i hear about Josh Hamilton's MVP season. Say i won the MVP in 2018 season, or led the league in stolen bases in the 2020 season. It would be awesome for one of the commentators to mention that every once and a while. Or even mention what our team did the previous season. Its all about keeping it fresh. Also, in previous versions of the game the commentators would spotlight a player on the team during the intro's of each game. I guess that was taken out for whatever reason, but i enjoyed hearing the breakdown and I actually didn't skip the intro and go right to the game. The intro could be dynamic too. Karros or Campbell could talk about a current slump someone is in or how hot someone currently is.
