Last night's gaming session resulted in 1 in 5 caught (for me as a pitcher) and has 2 steal on me even though I threw to the bag to keep them close.

The issue looks like it,s from a delayed reaction of the baserunner from when they notice a throw to the bag to tagging back up on the bag. Is there a stat for a baserunners reaction? or is this tied into steal ability?
I've never been able to fix the problem of getting picked off too much. I agree the baserunner has a slow reaction sometimes. Lowering pickoff to 2 helps a lot though like I said. At least that loweres the attempts. Steal ability at 7 seems good so far this year.

Re: Pickoffs

Are you talking about Pick-offs from a base runner side of the issue I take it?

I guess I am looking at the issue more towards a pitcher side that it,s the baserunners taking that "extra" step and then something is happening between seeing the pickoff attempt and returning to the bag. The CPU pitchers are picking off, or attempting to, as much as the should or no more than I do playing as a pitcher....

I see it as... it seems that a lot of baserunners are attempting to steal (some shouldn't be attempting at all) and a majority are taking an extra step even though it not needed to successfully steal; only the elite stealer should be taking that step. So, tuning steal attempts should improve the situation. At least make to where players with 46 speed, or lower, are not attempting to steal and take an extra step, and if they try, they should not be successful. Wouldn't steal ability at 7 make the issue worse? I see it as making the bad stealer successful and attempting to steal with greater chances of success each time instead of not trying to steal at all.

OR are we talking about the same issues from different sides of the ball?

That extra step is the killer, I think if it was toned down on the players attempting it and (if needed at all) tweak the reaction time(reacting lag from identifying the throwback to making the dive) to get back to the base . In my RttS games, with like a 12 speed, 20's in baserunning stats and steal stats in the single digits, I can get back to the base fine. But I don't take an extra step (and I should be caught if I do LOL)

Re: Pickoffs

I posted this in the impressions thread but it's valid for here more:

http://theshownation.com/bug_reports/10566

I am not one to criticize others work and I do not know all of the details of the coding process but it would seem important enough to look into changing some variables to at least dampen the amount of pickoffs you see. Attention to details is important, We are seeing an exorbitant amount of pickoffs even with no lead taken, that should not be happening. Considering how closely the game follows real life numbers in terms of strike % in every count, doubles, triples, homers, strikeouts the steals and pickoffs being not even close to real life stands out more.

To be clear I am talking about non-rtts games with stock rosters. I could see getting picked off in rtts just because your guy is low rated but this happens way out of proportion in the normal game and it shouldn't be. It happens to both the CPU and the user (autobaserunning). The pickoff slider only affects frequency but that still is not enough and you still see weird outcomes to guys being picked off with default leads.

Re: Pickoffs

I stopped playing the game. Might as well keep playing mlb13. I can pickoff the cpu every time and I get picked every time I take a lead. I'm winning or losing every game 1-0 in extra innings. Playing on all star. Its ridiculous to have 20 hits in a game and no baserunning.

Re: Pickoffs

FWIW, I turned pickoff slider to zero and it has had no effect whatsover. Getting picked off, and picking off, at an arcade-ish, ridiculous rate.

The baserunning has been totally nerfed this year & I have no idea what they did.

Re: Pickoffs

I replied to the bug report comment but not sure what else we can do. Just make sure you login and vote up the bug report so we can get it on the front page and at least ensure it gets top priority next year

ok gotcha... Thanks for the info. You aren't criticizing you're being constructive, and it's a valid issue. If I see some of it in RttS then I would assume it's the same or worst in regular game play (or even Franchise/MoM mode). I read the Bug Report and gave it a vote up (I still feel it's in that "delay" and it needs to be tuned as the CPU has no control over it)

I wonder if the roster makers can edit a stat that could resolve this?

Re: Pickoffs

Pickoffs are a hidden attribute given to the pitchers.

Only SCEA can fix this.
