I am probably one of the most critical people of SDS on this entire forum.
Im all for applauding things that are good. This is them fixing something that they had broken.

And as another user pointed out is varied and not predictable.

Having done several 20+ year sims in 23 and 24, I think the progression /regression system produces a nice variety of career arcs. What are you hoping to see improved ?
I would want the progression to be more dynamic and make sense, pitchers to gain or lose pitches, velocity, break, stamina. Players to lose speed more dynamically when they age. More of performance driving the ratings. Players gain or lose position eligibility. Just a few off the top of my head. Basically any of the features that have been in OOTP for 5 years.

Gets really old people alway comparing OOTP to The Show. Two completely different games aimed to do two completely different things. If some people are expecting a playable console video game to ever be as in depth and feature rich as a PC simulator they are in for a real rough wait.

I didn't compare the game. I listed like 10 things in response and you just dismiss it all to go to the last sentence.

All great ideas. I haven’t delved deeply enough into The Show in a micro level like that to examine how well these are or aren’t done. But yes definitely nice ideas, although I’d rather see them improve AI bullpen or roster management first, as the regression system is at least passable to me.

And you mention for the system to make sense .. but a lot of time real world doesn’t “make sense”
Either. Some players come out of nowhere after being mediocre for years .. some great players inexplicably struggle when they shouldn’t… there’s a fair bit of real life randomness that isn’t easy to explain either … so for that reason I’m okay with some things that seem a bit random in a development engine.

And yes I’ve been playing OOTP for 20+ years and it’s certainly got a lot of great systems (although people still complain about many things there too!)

Yea I saw people complaining that ootp hasn't added enough franchise features recently lol meanwhile I can't even enjoy OOTP because it is freakin overwhelming.

And when I say dynamic , my example is more akin to the regular ratings update the show does. Where players might gain/lose 10 rating points in a couple months. Prospects come out of nowhere and work in to serviceable mlb players, bullpen guys who might start with a 65 rating , might go up to a 78 in a couple months with the real sds updates. Progression/regression is extremely slow IMO in the show.

I think maybe if they added something where players / minor leaguers on prolonged hot/cold streaks could progress/regress significantly faster. This is something I think is so needed as well because of their lackluster roster management. Would have more dynamic cpu management because when they just roster the highest rated player, there isn't much change during the season.

and yea, lineup and bullpen logic is the MOST important thing to me. I can manually bump players playing great or call up/send down players periodically. But having to manage lineups/bullpen for the cpu teams is such a time suck for me.

I will confidently say regression is broken. Dudes will be having great starts and 15 games into the season have massive regression. While some guys will be playing terrible and nothing changes. It makes zero sense

Re: Do you find players regress too fast or is it just me?

At one time progression/regression was more linear but some people complained that it was too predictable.

There are many problems with it. One is vs performance impacts outcomes but lhp is too small a sample size for the major changes.

Another problem even after the new player draft is predicted fully scouting attributes do not reflect the progression system in the game. I doubt the players who built the new player draft studied actual progression in franchise mode. For example pitchers stamina rarely increases but on the draft card it shows starting pitcher stamina increasing significantly. My most recent draft contained a total of 1 starting pitcher in the entire 30 team draft who might be a viable 6 inning pitcher by the time his bb/9 h/9 k/9 progress enough for him to be able to get MLB hitters out. The rest had either stamina too low or attributes too low or both.

This is in MLBTS 23. I chose not to purchase 24.
