So if I go into the PS store and by the day 1 digital download for MLB 14 the show, will it start the preload once the firmware 1.70 has been downloaded or should I want to buy the game in the store until after the update hits?

I'd be safe and download the game AFTER you download the update. (I've already got the digital version pre ordered, but I have to wait for the firmware to download before I can pre install. I think it'll be easier for you if you haven't already pre ordered it, to wait until the firmware updates, THEN buy the game and pre install it).

According to this thread: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...tall-size.html we are looking at a 47GB install size. Does that also mean the download size will approximately be this large?

Most likely , but on PS4 pretty irrelevant as you can play fast on ps4 as a game is downloading, great feature Playgo is.

Depends. When I first installed NBA2K all I was able to play, before it installed fully, was a quick game.

With battlefield I could only do campaign till it fully downloaded. Replayed missions over as well until it gained more percent.

If we're talking about 47GB, then I'd say the install size and download size are one in the same.
