Simulated franchise: Crazy stats

I'm a huge franchise sim guy. One thing I noticed about The Show is how stats vary a huge amount year-to-year. In NBA 2K you knew what kind of stats players would put up, but on The Show it seems random! Like Miggy will hit .240, my ace pitcher will have a 5 ERA. And on the flip guys will perform way over expectations and hit 300 on the year. It's like every year, you don't know what how your players will do. I like it, because it keeps it interesting, but there's no consistency.

Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, Javy Vasquez???? I still have nightmares....all threw up 5 eras....David Ortiz hit .233 in 2009.

There needs to be some deviation, no one throws up the same stats in baseball year to year. Basketball is a different animal.

Re: Simulated franchise: Crazy stats

Or how about Adam Dunn hitting .119 or whatever that first year with the Sox; dude had been a .250 career hitter. You have to allow for some pretty extreme fluidity.

Overall, though, I'm not sure I even agree. When I check league leaders it's mostly the high-rated guys; it's just not ALL high-rated guys, which is exactly what the engine should be doing. Anyone can have a crap year and anyone can have a great one. That's baseball right there.

Miggy does..and what I mean by that he's not going to hit .240. Not yet anyway.

Exactly. A player can be the most consistent player for years up to a point and then their averages can turn for the worst. However, in Miggy's defense I'm sure he had a huge year the following season.
