You have to remember the dynamic lighting baseball has to deal with, plus thousands of fans rendered in one shot. Not to mention the grass, etc. More uniform material as well. Even the equipment, close-up shots of batters, etc.

There's a lot to be had for both games, and obviously there is some talent to be had from the artists as well... but in the end, you're right that both games look great. MLB could run better I'm guessing, but for them to get ~60 FPS for the pitching, batting, and fielding is superb on its own.
Exactly this.

As long as the gameplay runs at 60 I can deal with the odd dip during cut scenes etc.

That said this version is way better than last years where we saw dips almost every cut scene. They seem to be extremely rare this year.

Re: Framerate?

Agree with those who say that as long as the gameplay is at 60, i can deal with the occasional choppiness in cutscenes etc, because yes, it IS there, no matter what anyone says, always has been with this series.

That said, gameplay is what matters in reality.

Re: Framerate?

One spot during gameplay where a lower framerate is noticed is during batting. One way to notice is by looking at the motion of the bat. It looks choppy. Besides this I haven't really noticed it much during gameplay and for the most part it's smooth.

Yep, was thinking this to myself last night, its clearly not always smooth in the waggle etc...however when the pitch is thrown and ball is in play, that matters not as it never impacts the pitcher/batter showdown thankfully.

Re: Framerate?

Seems like some people maybe aren't getting the same choppy framerate that others are? I feel like it is very noticeable in my game, and very distracting, there is no way you wouldn't be distracted by it. I'm curious whether there is a difference between the download and disc version in terms of performance? Or could something else be affecting it? Looking at some YouTube videos of gameplay, many do not have the same stuttering and framerate problems that my game was having. I wonder if there is any explanation for this?

Re: Framerate?

The framerate is still terrible when throwing from third to first and also when fouling the pitch back or to the sides.

Not to mention some of the high res textures like hair and grass along with beards go to low res when you select a pitch to throw.

It is like the game wants to show new textures in high def but when you select the pitch and are about to get into gameplay it loses the high res. Very dissapointed in that

Noticed this resolution change after selecting a pitch too. Thought I was going crazy and imagining it.

Re: Framerate?

Well for those really worried about framerate, I can at least say this. Many other games with a lot of graphical fidelity on PS4 run at 45-60FPS. The machine has some CPU problems. As we get more into compute and the Sony SDK improves you can expect some really nice boosts to overall framerate in these games. For a small sports team I am sure a lot of this is pretty hard atm.

But 16 will have an entire year building from this nice foundation as opposed to the horrible alpha state in 14. I think we can expect some great improvements going forward at least.
