Huge Control Flaw

Ive encountered this twice already. I have runners on 1st and 3rd with less than two outs and I want to send the runner at 1st. In order to do that I have to hit "Right" on the left stick and press L2. When I do this however, it also implements directional hitting to the right side when thats not what i want. I just want to make contact and avoid a DP. Dont know how this got by the SCEA staff. Anyone else run into this?

I was under the impression you had to continue holding the left stick for directional hitting? So after you send the runner if you let off it would go back to regular hitting?

Yeah, once you let off the L-Stick you're back to timing hitting. You can queue the steal pre-pitch and still do a normal swing without the analog stick.
