I've been playing Diamond Dynasty on Legend difficulty and you have to use manual fielding and throwing. Suffice it to say, it's been a rather humbling experience. I need to get better.

I played D-2 Baseball in late-90s'. played short and second, had an excellent glove and high fielding %.

i use auto field and throw only and classic pitch.

I've always used manual fielding just prefer having more control.

I used auto-fielding a majority of last year while still throwing manually; I'm still on the fence for this year.

Its probably too late in the game, but this thread could very well be the start of MLB 16 The Show's primary and featured improvement.

Not to say that the defense is bad. It's just the weakest part of the game. I bet if you combined this year's defense with the pitcher/batter interface from 5 years ago, nobody would complain about defense whatsoever.

Yeah I am shocked to I thought it would be like 5%.

I mostly play online, so even if I'm offline, I have it on manual to practice.

I actually like auto way better but, again, using it would just weaken my skills when I go online and can't use it.

Im not surprised with the outcome. Im coming from MLB2k series and I gotta say the fielding , especially the outfield fielding on the Vita is horrendous. Popups should not be this difficult. People said a lot of bad things about the 2k series but their fielding mechanics was spot on. I hate to say it but the fielding on the Show is just bad!

Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

I have always been a manual fielding/throwing guy. I may now have to switch.

I don't mind too much that I can't get to some grounders up the middle. What bothers me is the discrepancy between the difficulty of infield play versus outfield play.

My players simply don't boot any balls in the infield. After one month, I have four errors in the infield. And yet, I have a total of nine outfield errors. This is a problem. Despite slider adjustments, I can't seem to achieve an appropriate balance. If I increase the infield error slider, then the cpu will turn into the Bad News Bears, and I don't want this.

There are too many outfield fly balls where I react properly and the "doh!" animation kicks in. As a result, in the outfield I'm finding myself trying to maneuver so as to trigger the proper animation rather than getting to the ball. I'm not saying it's impossible but the only time you can practice this is in a game. We need a fielding practice mode, especially for the outfield.

But for the infield, I definitely feel my stick ability is overriding player ratings way too much. Additionally, I've seen three or four infield plays that should obviously be errors but are called hits instead. Makes me think something is wrong. I'd expect to see this once in a while, but not as often as I have.

If it was equally difficult across the board, I might stay manual, but I don't see how I can. It's unfortunate because the fielding feels so much more fluid than in years past; it just seems unbalanced to me.
