Surface Ballpark Effects

Rogers Centre has an artificial turf. Does MLB The Show take this into consideration when the ball rolls? If true, fielders would field ground balls cleaner so errors would be less prevalent but there would likely be more ground ball singles because the surface is quick. The ability to get on via bunt might be more difficult or at least fielders would likely get to the ball sooner.

Re: Surface Ballpark Effects

That is a good question. I don't know the answer but I do play as the Jays, and I don't really notice a difference as far as how the ball rolls between the Rogers Center and other ball parks. I'll keep an eye out for it from now on.

I've played a bunch of games at Roger's Center through my RTTS Orioles player. I haven't seen much discernible difference between it and other stadiums for grounder speed, bunt ability, or base path speed.

I know there is ball park effects, such as how the ball flies out easier in Colorado, but don't know if artificial turf actually plays any different than grass. Would be cool if it did, but I cant say I have noticed anything different.

Re: Surface Ballpark Effects

I've played a few games keeping an eye out for any difference between the Roger's center and grass ballparks. It might just be by imagination but I have noticed a slight difference on slow rollers or balls with a lot of spin on them. Those seem to die a lot quicker on the turf. On hard hit balls though, if there is a difference it's so slight it's nearly impossible to confirm.

This is all just casual observation, but I've got a six game road-trip coming up in my franchise, with three games at Fenway and three at the Trop, so I'll continue to keep an eye out.

The only thing I can say for sure is that IF there is a difference, then it is very slight.

Re: Surface Ballpark Effects

I've been continuing to keep an eye out on the road and home games and I do still notice a slight difference between the turf and real grass. Again, this might be my imagination but I really do think it does make a (small) difference. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this but for now hopefully you can take my observations as an answer.
