Franchise question
I am sure that I am just missing this but I started a franchise with the reds and when I traded for Kris Bryant he went from an 86 to 81. He didn't even play a game. Same happened with a few other guys. Their ratings went down instantly. Am I missing something?

Check the player morale. See what he is upset about.

Awesome, now we have to cater to players feelings?

I have a franchise question also:

When you start a franchise and use the 'live rosters' option, does that mean that their rating will be updated through the live roster updates?

It means you will be using the latest live roster update as your roster for the entirety of the franchise.
