Yeah I'm not sure if that's the fix or not either, but it definitely worked for me.
I mean when I noticed it happening, the only thing that I did differently when starting up the game than normal was I didn't connect to the internet at all, and I noticed the "bench" bug when I wasn't connected and playing offline. I unplugged my PS4, took it to another house and plugged it in and that seemed to cause the error.
When I plugged it back in at my own house a couple hours later and connected to my wifi before starting up the game, the problem was fixed and everything was back to normal.
It could have been that I just needed to restart or do a hard reset by unplugging the power cable to clear the cache out of the system, since I did that anyway while transferring my system from one house to another. Just a thought.
