how do i get the real 2017 mlb season schedule with a save file from 2016 season schedule ? can I sim the real 2016 mlb season and do free agency - then when mlb 2017 releases, I transfer file to that game and then proceed to spring training and real mlb 2017 schedule ?

You should be able to get the real 2017 schedule by not advancing to the new season. So long as your save file is still in the 2016 season or offseason, you should get the new 2017 when you transfer.

So yes, you can sim the 2016 season and do free agency and all the other offseason things. Just don't advance to new season.
