In my experience, they usually are, but there have been some instances of multiple players from a team and one of them has really bad stats.

I'm not positive, but I know there had to have been somebody better on the Rangers than Lucroy batting .188, even if it meant a different position being taken away from someone who may deserve it a little more.

I don't recall ever running across the issue with multiple players from a team and one having poor stats. Every time I've run across the poor stat player he was the only representative from his team.

I'm sure there were players with better stats on the Rangers.

In my experience and from what I saw when looking into it, what happens is a team will not have a player ranked among the top vote getters for the All Star game. Since each team has to have a representative, the game will find the player with the lowest number of votes and replace him with the highest rated player on the 25 man roster at that position, regardless of stats.

For instance, using your example. What I'm guessing happened is that the Rangers didn't have anyone with enough votes to be voted into the All Star Game. And lets say that Yan Gomes had the least amount of votes out of all the vote getters, the game replaced Gomes as the 3rd catcher for the AL with Lucroy, despite Lucroy having poor stats.

My experience with it has been rare for sure. I'll also note I'm thinking about the last few iterations of the game. This year, the guys who shouldn't have made it have all been the only rep from their team. I should have been clearer before.

Yeah, I'm not saying that I haven't experienced it before, just that I don't remember it happening.
