Meter Pitching Much Harder?

I have found meter pitching to be MUCH more difficult in mlb 18 than in any past version of mlb the show. If your timing is off at all, the pitch goes for a ball about 70% of the time. I have also found it MUCH more difficult to locate pitches (IE a slider away being middle) as a result I struggle to hold on to leads anyone else noticing this?

Re: Meter Pitching Much Harder?

I have found it more challenging. I have actually walked batters at a consistent rate this year, where in past years, I was always amongst the fewest walks.

I like that the ball doesn't drift towards the middle of the plate when you miss your timing.

Has made it alot more fun for me.

Re: Meter Pitching Much Harder?

Maybe it does rely on the pitcher's individual attributes a tick more than previously.

To the OP, 1)what level are you pitching on
2)are you glad that it's more difficult to locate pitches?

If you aren't pleased with it being more difficult have you considered using Dynamic Difficulty? If you dont want to use Dynamic difficulty, what about using pure analog pitching, the difference IMO between the two is like an automatic transmission in a vehicle and a stick-shift. You have more control over performance from pure analog pitching as it's more dependent on user skill than pitcher attributes (at least IMO). But if you cant drive a stick then meter is ''easier'' if you don't mind getting less mileage out of your gas lol

To me there seemed to be a huge difference from All Star to Hall of Fame meter pitching. I tried HOF on the extreme conquest and I couldn't pitch at all. Very wild.

Re: Meter Pitching Much Harder?

It seems to me like it's a little harder to consistently hit the sweet spot on the meter this year. (Maybe that's why you get a trophy for the first time you hit it?) I also think it's a good thing, because although I'm quite comfortable with the golf-like three click method, I sometimes wondered if I should try the other methods to give myself a little more of a challenge. Looks like SDS did it for me.

I've been mentioning this for years now, and I'm thrilled with this subtle but necessary change.

I play on Legend difficulty fwiw.

Re: Meter Pitching Much Harder?

I did not play 17, but there seems to be a bigger difference between veteran and all star this year than in years past. In my experience with previous versions, my own pitchers would operate pretty much the same on different difficulty levels, but on the harder level the CPU hitters would do a better job.

This year, I have absolutely noticed that on all star, its harder to hit my spots and get pitches to go where I want them to. Even when I hit the meter exactly right.

As always though, the end result is that I go from allowing 1 or 2 runs a game on veteran to 7 to 10 on all star.
