That's a lot of spring training games he'd miss.

To me, it looks a lot like the only teams interested in Harper are teams he really doesn't want to play for. But when you ask for 10 years, you're pretty much narrowing your choice down to less than a handful of teams to sign with.

I think Machado and Harper had a lot of team interested. They just didn't want the 3 to (at most) 5 yr contracts. Which is funny because I'll bet the dollar amounts equated to approximately the same as 10 years. Only Padres and Giants (guessing for Harper) were willing to go 10 knowing if the plan didn't work, they can dump them or opt out after 5. No owners want those long terms anymore. Just my $.02 on it.

Giants offered a 5 year, reportedly. Phillies and Padres are the ones going 10. But I think a 10 year deal with a 26 year old is a helluva lot different than a 10 year with a 32 year old or something like Pujols. And Hamilton never deserved that deal. He had a couple great seasons but not nearly the track record Pujols had. A-Rod’s mega deal was actually a good one until he got popped for PED’s because he signed it young enough that he would still be a good player throughout majority of the contract. That will be the case with Manny/Bryce. Theoretically, they should still be at least good players by age 34-35 when they’re coming to the final years of the deal. The Pujols deal was always insane given his age, even before his mass regression. The Hamilton deal... I think the F/O was snorting more coke than Josh. These deals just aren’t really comparable to the previous 10 year deals given the massive age difference.

Well, I'll be getting 2 copies now. One to play and one to keep as a memento unopened.
