I have a PS5 but it's fast as hell easy load times. so that's where it is more powerful not really about graphics I am seeing so far.

I'm primarily a high end PC gamer, and the PS5 is a very capable system. The PS4 and the Pro were very under powered and borderline obselete from a hardware perspective when they first came out, let alone all these years later. The difference in PS4 and what's capable on PS5 is a world of difference, like so much more and far advanced that it's laughable. Give the PS5 some time, it'll get much better.

Hoping for ray tracing. Pretty sure it's not in this year. I think that will be a huge step up.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Stadium Creator Revealed in Next-Gen Teaser

One thing I noticed (and I tend to look for it every year) is they haven't shown a single nighttime shot yet. Not in a last-gen video, not in a current-gen video.

It's likely because they're still working on the lighting of course, but it always gets me excited that perhaps this is the year they finally figured out some of the nighttime transition woes that plagued it in the past. They've improved the night skies over time, but there is so much more that can be done. With them going to PS5 and XSX, maybe they finally have it, and haven't yet shown it.

Oh, please impress me SDS!

MLB The Show 21 Stadium Creator Revealed in Next-Gen Teaser

This video is cleary just to hype the coverboy and to announce stadium creator for next gen. I think it says nothing about other visual upgrades that (might) have been done. Ok no new player models but I still have hope for field upgrades, improved backdrops, more detailed crowds etc.

I remember years back in a graphics stream one of the devs said like “oh yeah we also made the infield dirt look wet and then it dries up during the progression of the first few innings.” Every year they inprove things that they not specifically mention beforehand.

Now I just hope the breadcrums are replaced with some proper 3d rendered dirt and grass haha.

Wow! This looks much more detailed than I thought it was going to be. All the hours I usually spend editing CAPs might start going to stadiums.

Well, that is if I can manage to find a PS5 to buy this year lol.

People expecting some massive graphic improvement on the PS5 and Series X are being a bit unrealistic in their expectations. As someone who does have a PS5 and has played several games that have been updated to take advantage of the PS5 I can't say that any game has blown me away graphically.

Most improvements have been along the lines of making games run steadily at 60fps and adding in features like ray tracing. Many games already had 4K graphics and textures. There is only so much that they can do and still keep the FPS at a solid 60fps.

The jump in graphical fidelity is less and less every generation. The polygons that make up the game are getting to the point where you can't make them look any better. And getting close to the limit of how many can even be used.

This is where necessity breeds invention. I feel like soon, and by soon, I mean within the next 10-20 years, we will become immersed in games with VR and things that probably haven't even been invented yet.

It's an inevitability in order for gaming to thrive into the future.
I remember back in the PS1 days, people would talk that games would be photorealistic by now. What you just said about polygons make photorealism impossible.

People just don’t seem to understand how graphics get created. A real artist has to still model everything and texture it. Models now take longer than ever, months and months and months of all day work. They don’t just magically piece things together and new models appear. Add this on top of different body styles, different lighting, and the amount of players, stadium detail, etc.. to expect them to completely change how the game looked was setting your own self up for disappointment. The quicker people learn to temper expectations to a realistic level, the happier they’ll be. You aren’t going to see generational leaps like you did, not that simple anymore, you aren’t multiplying the poly counts like the older generation leaps.

Here’s a great article for anyone who doesn’t understand the evolution of graphics:
