$44.95? She works for the New York Times and won't fork over the $ for HD? Papers really are being phased out I guess.

Re: NYT Editorial on "Ultimate Fighting"

I couldnt even finish reading the entire thing, there are so many errors in her so called "reporting" that nothing she says can be taken seriously. At one point she attempts to say that UFC fighters are nearly naked in the octagon, ****ing really? Nearly naked? Did she pin that same bull**** when the olympics were on and the swimmers were wearing speedo's with their damn junk hanging out for all to see? It always amazes me how people can turn a blind eye to things they enjoy while ripping a different product for the same things they refuse to even acknowledge in other sports etc.

Re: NYT Editorial on "Ultimate Fighting"

it's the same stupidly uninformed media coverage MMA gets from numerous outlets. Unsurprisingly, she holds a higher image of boxing though, which is usually the case with views like this. Even people on ESPN trash on MMA just because they have little knowledge of the sport but often love the "poetry" of boxing.

Men are felled by “accidental” strikes to the groin (along with eye-gouging and biting, such strikes are prohibited, but I saw several). The commentators insist that everyone’s obeying regulations, but the fighters seem murderous nonetheless.
I wondered if she switched to the Lifetime channel halfway through it and just assumed it happen, and no one would noticed this when she wrote it.

Re: NYT Editorial on "Ultimate Fighting"

Probably my favorite quote from this terrible editorial:

"It’s a fearsome network, this global fight club, filled with scary-looking veterans of the world’s armies. Fighters are tattooed, pierced and frequently bearded, and their goth uniform is unmistakable."

Pierced? Show me one fighter who wears piercings in the ring... please.

Bearded? What's so bad about that? Ms. Heffernan, I'm often bearded, and, hey, I could be working with you in 14 months as a journalist!

Bottom line, if tatoos, peircings, and beards portray a negative image of a person to this woman, she needs to get out more... times-are-a-changing, Ms. NYT.

As a whole, the article is garbage. It's VERY well written (she's got a way with the English language), but CLEARLY biased and uninformed. It makes me want to vomit.
