****, the UFC is asking for 4 days tops. 2 for travel, 1 for the press conference and 1 for the commercial. Maybe 1 more if they do a NY press conference in May. Conor hasnt done radio interviews in the last two fights. He's at the same level as Ronda when it comes to that. Ronda does the main press conference, a press day at her gym, commercial day and thats it until fight week. Same with Conor now.

They dont need him to do local interviews or radio spots anymore. But they need him to do a commercial and they need him to do the big press conference. He's the biggest star in MMA and with that comes responsibilities. Mayweather is a dick but he did press conferences every time. Same with Pac. Same with GSP. Lesnar. Ronda. They all do.
He said he'd be in New York, and was willing to do the other press conference if the date had been adjusted.

It doesn't matter where he did the interviews, it was still taking time away from McGregor, and I see where he's coming from in that he'd like some slack cut going into this fight.

UFC can't put a good commercial together with all the footage of the 2 guys they already have?

Push, push, push, push McGregor out there, say all these nice things, count your money when he saves a card and draws a big house and PPV buys, but when the table is turned and McGregor asks for a slight adjustment to the schedule, he's done? That's lame.

UFC is McGregor's employer, but they also benefit directly from what he does in and out of the Octagon. Why not work with a guy that's your biggest draw and make him happy?

I get that my opinion may not fall in line with most. I'm enjoying the discussion.

They should love it. If the UFC folds, they can skip press conferences too.

Yeah, I see what you guys mean.

Hopefully we get to see him sooner than later.

When Nick Diaz did this how long did it take for him to get his next fight after when he would have fought GSP?

He ended up fighting at the PPV he was supposed to fight GSP. I'm guessing it was the situation I lined out in my post. BJ Penn was put in place of Diaz. The GSP got hurt and Diaz was the replacement for GSP. That's going with what I read of Wikipedia.

Ah my memory sucks. For some reason I thought he fought BJ on a different card. I remember that fight though. Nick put a beating on BJ that night

Thats partially true. Condit got put in the title fight and Diaz was moved to fight Penn (who Condit was going to originally fight). When GSP got hurt, they pulled Condit and Penn/Diaz became the headliner.

Man this is UFC 200. They have never done a basic clip commercial for a tentplole event like that. ****, they have never done a basic commercial for Conor. You cant do bland promotion for the biggest event of the year.

My point is its 4 days. We are 11-12 weeks out from the fight. Conor is trying to argue that 4 days away from training (which he could still do in Vegas) 11 weeks out is going to affect his preperation? GTFOH.

Also, this is business. Its not like they called Conor last week and said "Yo, we have a press conference scheduled next week in Vegas and we need you here". He likely knew the dates when he signed the bout agreement weeks ago. So Conor knows the date of the PC weeks in advance, decides he doesnt want to go the week of the PC and the UFC is supposed to just work with him.

Look at it from the UFC's perspective. They typically schedule PC's for fight weeks because the majority of the media is in town for a fight. Tons of media is in town for the Jones fight. They can get the optimal attention of they do it this week. There isnt another US PPV card until June so they have no other chance to hold a PC with this many people until then. Now you think Conor is upset about having to do a PC in April....how pissed do you think he would be if they did it in June?

Regarding the commercial, again Conor knew about it weeks in advance. I work in TV and it is expensive as hell to cancel a shoot. Deposits are lost. You still have to pay the crew for the shoot because of the unions. All because Conor woke up this week and decided he didnt want to fly to Vegas. Thats hundreds of thousands of dollars lost.

Good discussion.

I will not do this if I am back on the road handing out flyers again.
I will always play the game and play it better than anybody, but just for this one, where I am coming off a loss, I asked for some leeway where I can just train and focus. I did not shut down all media requests. I simply wanted a slight adjustment.
But it was denied.
There had been 10 million dollars allocated for the promotion of this event is what they told me.
So as a gesture of good will, I went and not only saved that 10 million dollars in promotion money, I then went and tripled it for them.
And all with one tweet.
Keep that 10 mill to promote the other bums that need it. My shows are good.
Lmao. This UFC 200 gate could be nuts. Work with him, Dana.
