They should add tournaments/cups, idea.
A big issue in MyTeam is that certain gem cards, for example Emeralds. Are lower than some golds. The RTTP restrictions make it so you can't use any emeralds until the unrestricted seeds, at which point they are obsolete (some, not all).
So why not add another mode? You already have RTTP, Domination and Challenges. That's two modes v CPU and one mode PvP. Have an extra PvP mode with "Tournaments"
Similar to a playoff format, you would have multiple tournaments all restricted to card colours. Bigger rewards for tougher tournaments and a final reward for completing them all.
For example.
All tournaments would have "rounds" to advance through (playoff style) Similar to RTTP style you would have to win X games. And if you lose the round starts over. Difference is once you've advanced you can't be "relegated".
So...
Bronze Tournament;
Bronze players only.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 3 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = A pack with one guaranteed silver player. And 500 MT.
Silver Tournament;
Silver players only.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 3 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = A pack with one guaranteed gold player. And 1000MT.
Gold Tournament;
At least 3 gold players required to enter.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = A pack with a guaranteed gold player. And 1500MT.
Emerald Tournament.
Emerald players only.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = A regular emerald pack and 1000MT.
Ruby Tournament;
Ruby players only.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = A regular ruby pack. 2000MT.
Sapphire Tournament;
Sapphire players only.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = Sapphire historic player (I'm thinking someone good but not incredible like Kenny Smith or throwback Shawn Marion). 2000MT.
Onyx Tournament;
No diamonds or PDs. Minimum 3 Onyx players.
Round 1 = Win 3 out of 5 games.
Round 2 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = Regular Onyx pack and 2000MT.
The Diamond Tournament;
Maximum 5 diamond or PD cards. Unrestricted bench.
Round 1 = Win 4 out of games.
Round 2 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Round 3 = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Finals = Win 4 out of 7 games.
Reward = 5000MT.
That's 15,000MT just for completing the tournaments (plus what you earn for winning the games) and 7 players.
After completing all of the tournaments successfully you would get a Diamond player.
I don't see why 2k couldn't do something like this. It would make so much sense, it's an easy way to produce more playing time for the game and to give people a reason to open more packs and buy more players off the AH.
They wouldn't even release all of the tournaments at once. Have bronze, silver and gold available to start with. Then release Sapphire and Emerald after a couple months. Then Ruby and Onyx around ASG time. Then diamond.
