Re: Still Playing NBA2K19 MyLeague, Convince Me I Should Move On

I think the big upgrades from 2k19 to 2k23 next gen are:

1. Being able to hire a complete staff, and it having an impact in performance, and player progression.

2. The training system works now. I don't remember, but I think practices didn't work properly in 2k19. Now it works properly, and has effect.
Also, if you don't want to manually set practices the game will automatically set them for you, with shoot arounds on the morning of game days, and body healing sessions after back to backs.

3. Load mgmt is in and let's you run intense practices without worrying about the old guys tiring themselves out.

4. Eras has immersion problems, like auto-gen rookies in the 80s and 90s being filled with tattoos, but is a one-of-a-kind mode.

Reasons not to upgrade:

1. Auto generated rookies still are terrible and received no upgrades, so those problems persist.

2. Shot Under Basket Tendency bug means that centers go from 90 to 10 after the first off season, and it will keep happening every year if you edit it back to normal.

3. We lost the ability to trade pick swaps unless the CPU offers it to you.

4. You'll have to see the annoying MyTeam promotion pop up every time you turn on the game.

Some things I miss from 2k19 MyLeague

Training system- having the ability to choose exactly what attributes you wanted your players to get better in. This got downgraded in 2k22 and now there’s only certain archetypes you can choose from.

Off-season training camps- now you can’t send your players to instantly increase some attributes. Untapped potential was the greatest casualty of this, it’s really hard to develop players when you can’t raise their potential anymore.

My personal pros and cons

Pros:
-Game looks great on PS5
-Gameplay is solid with the right slider sets. I can get it to where i can make more contested/real life type shots
-Force win is an upgrade
-Slight and i mean very slight improvement with CAP
-if i get tired of my fictional league and i can do a separate “MyEras” file

Cons (for my playstyle)
-Losing all my MyLeague history built up frok 2K19 sucked
-Having to create my fictional roster from scratch
-Team Takeover
-Help defense was a bit better in 2K19 with the right coach adjustments IMO
-some legacy bugs are still there in MyNBA

My biggest hurdle since 2k19 has been are the updates worth it to justify the gargantuan size leg work to get the game ready for how i like to play. And now at the end of 2K23’s cycle i will say the answer was yes it was

I am now looking forward to what new things are offered in 2K24. Best of luck on making your decision coach. Remember watching your youtube videos back in the day
Yes that’s correct I’m still enjoying the fictional league and doing videos about it. I think the worst thing 2K does to people is make them recreate the rosters from scratch each and every year.

Good points from everyone and good to see people playing this mode.

I think the game is visually better in 2K23. I did also notice the ability to force games was there.

I’m hoping the new CBA is built into 2K24.

I also wanted to mention that I’m playing 2K19 on my PS5. I’ve loaded both 2K19 and 2K16 on next gen which is a great option.

You can still raise potential, it's just not as direct. That also reminded me of the feature that I use most, and love as a draft class maker. The ability to set a Potential Ceiling, Average, and Floor for every player is amazing. I love the unpredictability it brings to give a guy a 99 ceiling and a 75 floor.

And grab MJ Wizards Rosters for them and 2k23 has really incredible longevity, IMO.

Also personally I think the gameplay is pretty on point. Some great animations. Guys actually get hurt in games with the right settings. Fouls a little low but not terrible. Game is straight up fun to play. I’ve never played a 2k this long into the offseason.

Just wondering, what do you use for draft classes outside of the 3 that MJWizards has done? I switched from his roster and classes due to them not being totally compatible with other people's classes. Which sucks, cause his stuff is the best.

I just stick with the generated classes.

I'm so particular that I just basically Create a new draft class every off season. There are a couple of things that annoy me that I can't overlook. A player's weight not correlating with their strength for example. The dudes who are 7'0" 285lbs with 55 strength.

This is the way. The reality is that if you want a truly satisfying 2K experience, you really gotta take control of your own destiny with this stuff. What I've done in the past is incrementally build a draft class over the course of the season. So like, if I was playing 2K20, I'd start a new MyLeague with a roster I've edited and a 2020 draft class I've edited, then over the course of the season, I play a game, make Cade, play a game, make Jalen Green, play a game, make Mobley, play a game, make Kuminga and Wagner, play a game, etc. Then when the offseason rolls around, you're good to go. All the best franchise mode experiences I've had have involved a balance between actually playing and preparing the resources needed to enable the best quality of play.
