What's up with these gfx? I thought I got a PS5 game not a SNES one

Hi.

On PS5 it seems the lighting is off or on Low settings. I noticed some cameras look slightly better (2k) while others (Side, Nosebleeds) look awful. And why all players textures look washed out, like they're made of wax?

This game looks even worse than the 2k22 I was playing on PS4. Every time I sit down my brain takes half a hour to adapt and dismiss the impresison it's a SNES game.

Any way to fix these?

maybe 2k already reached the Limit which the Hardware of current gen consoles is capable of? so without optimization they have to decrease the graphics to make it run smoothly.

calling it a SNES game is a little extreme don't you think?

I'm no expert on this sort of stuff, but if they're feeling like they've hit a technical ceiling then something is terribly wrong, because OP is right that the game looks trash (relative to how it should). It's either that (1) Sony and Microsoft laid all-time eggs with these new consoles, or (2) 2K's graphical priorities are out of whack. I remember some folks discussing 2K's emphasis on native 4K resolution, but I don't have the background to form an independent judgment on whether that's the culprit or whether it's worth it. Whatever the case though, they need to re-evaluate the importance of whatever is forcing them to sacrifice so much in terms of the overall visuals, since it's almost certainly not worth it.

Slight sidenote, but part of OP's complaint (that player models look waxy) is in many cases not really related to graphical power, but rather just sub-par texture work by 2K. I don't have the game so I can't test, but do more recently scanned players (like Walker Kessler and other younger players) also look waxy? LeBron indeed should look like an action figure since I believe they're still using the model from back when every player in the game looked like that.

OP is right, this game sucks, visually. 2k has no business trying to pass this off as ‘next gen’. It’s not a hardware thing, it’s an art direction thing. Colors are completely washed out, players look like they’re made out of Play-Doh, textures are very flat, skin types are very flat / single toned, no facial discolorations, awful lighting, awful sweat / gloss effects. Etc etc.

Thanks OP for giving me a reason to share annual 2K14 comparison

This is laughably embarrassing

you are over exaggerating but... i definitley agree with what you meant!

this year's games is looking awful, the colors are dead, the lightning is terrible, jerseys feel like ps2 era and

bodytypes are... horrible. combine all of that together and you are right! awful graphics!!

all the screend shots that 2k posted prior to release with all the great lightining and skin textures

were misleading and Completley bulls**t!!

Have you played an SNES game? Isn't that extreme?

The only way to fix is to have some understanding on how these things work. Once you have a bit of understanding, you may see things differently. Im not an expert, but calling out graphics when we have no knowledge on what it takes or the ceiling of why they went that way, could be a bit much.

I remember when I was frustrated about something in this game, I went and looked for some understanding from it. Whether it was a previous post from someone of the community or even doing a bit of research on the topic. I even wen tand talked to ppl of 2k to have some clarity on my frustrations.

What are you expecting though bro?

SN: Also, there are ppl sharing 2k14 screenshots from heavily modded users lol

Bro what are you talking about? These shots were captured straight from my console

The fact that you think it’s a mod, just proves my point. 2K14 is a vastly superior looking game. Period. You can remain in denial or come up with another silly reason to justify your disbelief. Truth hurts.
