Re: NBA 2K16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions Here

Good:

- This has easily got to be the best looking sports game on the market. The visuals are stunning, truly stunning. Lots of eye candy, new animations, the presentation is great, and there has been a much needed overhaul on the sideline characters, which in 2K15 could be weird and borderline scary.

- As far as I can see, we are rid of that annoying coach. I still hope there will be some kind of feedback from your team/staff. I'd still rather see him replaced than entirely removed, but the berating after scrimmages without any explanation is something I will NOT miss.

- The pre- and post game shows are back, and even though I sometimes skip them I like that they are there.

- Your teammate offensive AI is much improved. Now you can actually play without having everything going through you. There is still some poor movement though, and I have gotten many a "hold ball too long" because none of my teammates even attempts to move when covered. The rebounding is better but not great, and small guards can still pick rebounds out of big's hands.

Not so good:

The AI still cheats, the inhuman reaction time to loose balls is still there even if a little toned down, and they still hit 80-90% mid/long range and freethrows when you're on the court - even on ROOKIE (I had the Jazz hit 25 of 26 FTs on me). And while the CPU defense has gotten much better, your teammates are still pretty much useless. Just give us sliders in MyCareer and be done with it. I'm not entirely sure (well who am I kidding) that I would have preordered 2K16 i I knew that this wasn't fixed.

- The much hyped "Livin' da dream" is a huge letdown, you have no say in it, and none of your choices or even how you play matters at all. The story, while quite well written and acted is not very immersive (twins, come on) and a bit cliché and kinda predictable (Who didn't guess the exact outcome halfway through the story). I never identified with my character, the story is completely linear, and it doesn't shape the player you become when you enter the NBA. It could have branched out with you picking up something on the way, instead of all the scenes of bickering and and the typical movie conversations "do you remember that day Freq, when we were twelve, it was autumn, the sun was shining from a cloudless sky and the birds were singing and you wore the etc etc...".

The choice of which college you attended to should at least affect some different attributes or something (why did I read all those letters again?), now it's just a different jersey. I understand this may be a bigger deal to Americans though. You're still a FA after rookie season, but it's nice to be able to be a #1 pick in any case.

- I'm not an icon passer, and sometimes it feels like the AI "chooses" which player you pass to, in 2K15 you could hold the stick right and it would pass to the rightmost player, now it can very well pass to a player in the middle, or even backwards. It it probably an adjustment issue, but I for one find it less intuitive and it hampers my transition game.

- The camera shake option has to be the worst design decision of modern game development, and while I can turn it off for my freethrows, it still shakes when the CPU takes theirs. The camera shake is even on the jumbotron. If it'd only been a sort of simulate-stress-nuanced-sort of thing but this is just going full ******. Avoid if you have the slightest headache.

- I have set a secondary nickname, but the commentators ever so often refer to me as Freak, even on the post game show. Now, it may not matter as much to me as to others, but it's still silly and has a wider usage than we were told (that the nickname was only there for the story).

N/A:

- I couldn't find any camera setting for the practice sessions. Ended up playing scrimmage without being able to see where the ball was. There could be a setting I haven't found though.

- I really hope that there will be some sort of interaction system with the team/coach/GM, while you had very few options in 2K15, at least you had the opportunity to complain about a teammate and influence trades once in your career. Here I can see none so far, but I'm only 12 games into my second season. Hopefully I will have incentive to play out an entire career on this one.

I'm despising the interface (game menus etc..) for this game. Not liking it at all. This needs an overhaul imho.

- MyGM is too complex for my own liking. Prefer just to play a regular franchise and sim/play games through multiple seasons without the need to worry about team meetings, team chemistry, team morale, goals, etc..

Graphics and gameplay realism/likeness is incredible. 2K has done an amazing job on this part of the game. Kudos to the team who worked on this part of the game.

Also, I'm having trouble scoring in this game. I am using A&S's sliders right now, and I think people will mostly say "Up your sliders," but they're essentially the same in general. Anything I should be doing if I'm not running plays to get more open shots? I'm using the Warriors, by the way.

I don't call a lot of plays either....I just let the freelance offense flow for a lot of open looks. A big thing here is that you have to let the plays develop. If your dribbling without purpose the court will shrink on you and you'll have no spacing...

Other than that, dribble hand offs and give and go's work pretty well....then there's always the good ol' pick and roll

I played one like 3AM EST. Lost by 2 on a late score. It was a mix of high ovr and low ovr players. Input lag wasn't too bad. Its like last year REC but with jerseys. Cats still don't pass. Lol

Jason smith has a higher vertical rating than Aaron Gordon and Hezonja. That's all I got.

Transition D is awful, fast break or after a made basket.

Seems like the ability to play D in and near the paint against aggressive players who try to force the issue is bogged down. The offense is rewarded over good D. They either slide by you or its a foul and most instances.

All my post are from online play.

Don't want to repeat much of what's been said, but the first thing I immediately noticed was the buttery smooth fluidity of the jump shots, feels great.

Speed of the players is very noticeable. You see a big difference between say a Kyrie Irving vs. Mo Williams.

Defense is fun and this is coming from a Kings fan. You need to play sound D or you're gonna get smoked. I can see from a few games, I'm gonna have fun causing havoc with Willie "Trill" Cauley-Stein.

It's going to take me a minute to get used to the new substitution on the right stick.

Sneakers Sneakers, Sneakers! As a sneakerhead, it's about time they scanned them in. They look great in game.

What's some of your favorite songs on the soundtrack? For me, it's Rise and Shine(J.Cole; the most underrated rapper in the game) and I'm so sorry.
