X and a Silver Basketball

I changed some settings, like I know nothing about play calling and discovered that in coach options, the plays are defaulted to manual, instead of auto. I wouldn't know how to call a play even if I understood them.

Not sure why I cannot save the My League so its that way every game, but seems when I start a new game, its back to manual

Anyway, that or something else, suddenly has when I'm on offense, an occasional player with an X above his head, or even one time I saw a silver basketball.

What does this mean? Thanks.

The x is normally just letting you know to pass it to that player so you can start a play. He's the first point of the play, not to sure about the basketball sure i know just can't remember.
