The whole game needs to go through a reinvention process.

I think the dribbling system should be redone, I don't know how they would go about it but it could use a overhaul. If you give a player tighter control, that would allow us to do things we can't do such as splitting a pick and roll or doing subtle moves in traffic.

In addition to this they need to add a dribbling speed rating, and separate ball control into ball handling and ball security.

CP3, Curry and Kyrie (I know there are others) have elite handles but they dribble at different speeds (Kyrie being the fastest). The current setup has the dribbling speed based on a specific animation equipped to a player.

I agree that dribbling should be improved. When I'm using elite handling guards I don't feel like I'm handling with them. It's really hard to take a player 1 on 1 off the dribble and put moves on them.

Defenders barely bite on feints, that's the biggest problem. Second problem is that there's no concept of momentum. In the vids you can clearly see it's not so much the feints, it's that the defenders in the vids usually try to ice the drive on the feint, but then get crossed and can't get back to good position because of momentum.

In NBA 2K, this never really happens because there are too many slow-down-to-a-stop animations on 1v1 defense. There should be many more sliding through the defense animations, even with a good defender who's in a bad position. That's because if the offensive player's at your hip and you move, that's a blocking foul. Not so in 2K.

Great point about the brick wall defensive wins but the subtleties of reacting to a defender are watered down.

Change of speed isnt nearly as effective as it should be, hesitations are exaggerated and slow, as are counter crossovers and most moving dribble moves.

There needs to be another level of control to capture the split second, compact moves elite NBA players use every night. When i come off a pick and i have a big sagging back to contain, i should be able to use a quick hesitation, cross or in and out appropriate for the situation not the same drawn out versions i would do in open space.
